      very confused

Hi all I have recently changed many things on my wiring all wires from the master socket have been removed except 2, 5 same in the extension

massive increase from 600kbps to 3620kbps

      noise level sits at 12db

but even though it says i am running at 3620 i can only download at 35kb/sec instead of the 350kb/sec expected for this connection i have tried numerous download and speed tests all similar results what is going on

      many thanks

EDIT: I don't have the older router and therfore can't post detailed stats unless anyone knows a programme compatible with the new Netgear V2

Have you run TCPOptimizer (see the second sticky in my signature)?

Also, make sure you use a decent speedtester such as the Skyuser one (and make sure you're not mixing bits with bytes i.e. kb/s is not the same as kB/s!).

      Re: very confused

followed all the instructions for TCP

Your download speed is 328Kbps. That is 4173Kbps below the average for Sky
Your upload speed is 347Kbps. That is 71Kbps below the average for Sky

no change ive ordered a dsl nation faceplate will be here on wed, will this even make a difference now it turns out that the issue lies with the BB package i have ?

      Re: very confused

I guess it's possible that line problems are causing the low download speed but then line problems bad enough to do that would also massively limit your sync.

      What's your downstream attenuation?

      Re: very confused

53db should give you a shade under 5meg so there's certainly some noise there - can't see it being enough to reduce your download speed to that extent though. I'm not sure what the problem with your connection is.

Best thing would be to pass the problem to Sky. Call late at night (after 11:00) and report low speeds. After going through the T1 troubleshooting you should get put through to CST who will be able to look at your connection in real time and maybe they can see what the problem is.

      Re: very confused

I have done all this and they have sent me a new router saying all the issues will be resolved could this be true ?

      Re: very confused

just run download test again and it is working at the full 3.5mb could this be because it has only just realised the removal of the ring wire or even the tcp utilizer has just kicked in or more likely that off peak time has started ?

TCPOptimizer requires the PC to be restarted for the changes to be effective. There's no lag. As soon as the PC starts the changes become enabled.

There's no discernible peak or off-peak to Sky's LLU service that I can tell. Any slowdown in the evenings is very minor.

Can't really say why things have improved for you other than maybe your noise margin was dropping too low in the evening and has now risen again?
