"2 and 5" wiring question
I have another thread " Cannot sync above 8mb" going but thought this was a slightly different question so that's why I've put it in as a new thread.
As I seem to have a good line attenuation (28) but poor noise (7.7) I'm trying to find the noise fix. Already have a ADSL Nation XTE filtered faceplate in place. When I removed the old BT one and replaced it there were no wires inserted onto the BT extension. I simply put the XTE in and away I went. Now when opening the socket up again I see the following wires, all not wired to the XTE plate.(See photo)
Should I connect any of these wires to the XTE faceplate and if so what ones? Also would this increase my noise margin? Thanks in advance.

Re: "2 and 5" wiring question
If none of the wires were connected before there is probably little or no point in connecting them. If when taking the ADSLNation faceplate out and plugging the router into the socket on the right behind it, produces the same stats, there is nothing you can do to improve them. Providing of course that is the master socket.

Re: "2 and 5" wiring question
Maybe I'm getting this wrong, but what you wrote makes it sound as if these new wires "sprouted" between you fitting the faceplace and you checking it now. Which is odd.
Anyway, the only wires which should be connected to the back of the faceplace are extensions. Do you have any other telephone sockets elsewhere in the house? If not, then then you'll have nothing that needs to wired into the back of the faceplate.
Looking at the colour of these wires, I suspect that they come from outside the house. The incoming connection only needs two wires, but BT will often use a cable with many more wires in it, only two of which are actually used. I suspect all you need to do is just tuck these free wires back into the socket.
It's impossible to judge whether your noise level is good or bad without you saying what speed you're syncing at. If you're getting close to the maximum speed on Max, then the figures you give are OK really. I wouldn't expect a significantly higher noise margin.
Edit: sorry, just saw your other post, so ignore the last paragraph.

Re: "2 and 5" wiring question
Cheers for the reply folks.
NewsreadeR,the stats as you say are almost identical when removing the XTE faceplate and trying the test soocket. You say there is nothing I can do to improve them. How is it that when I check ADSL2+ availability with my stats ..
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8032 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.0 db 14.5 db
Noise Margin 8.1 db 14.0 db
.it says my line should get between 12-16mb but I only sync at only 8032kbps. The reason I migrated over to Sky Max was the increase in speed but it (at present) the same as my last ISP. People say that my noise margin is too low, so can I assume there must be a fault with the line? BT's website always tells me that they can't perform a check on my line at present, so not sure what next to do.
James67,
I have no other extensions in the house, just the master socket. My stats are above regarding my router.Sky told me that 8mb was the max my line would support, that's why they put me on it, but checkers show that my attenuation should get between 12-16mb. Pulling my hair out, what's left of it!!
Thanks for both replies and any other advice would be most greatful.
