Bizarre custom telephone wiring
Hi folks,
I just moved house last weekend (renting), and while BT are still trying to get my line active (since Wed 28th!), I thought I’d check out the wiring situation in my new house. Its like this:
External cable enters house from ground just outside main front door, up through ground in grey covering.
On the interior side of this wall by the wall is a blanking faceplate, with a ‘T’ logo. I unscrewed this and can see a white coloured cable going through the wall. The cable does not exit at this point.
Another socket, a plain twin extension is further along the ground floor hallway. Someone has left a Speedtouch ADSL filter in one of the sockets. Upon unscrewing this socket I find one white cable, and two/three (I forgot to count) black cables, all with two wires connected to the terminals. (Each wire has blue/white and white/blue wires connected to terminals 2 and 5)
Other set contains:
An extension socket in the ground floor kitchen, with only blue/white and white/blue wires connected to terminals 2 and 5, from a black covered cable.
In the first floor living room an NTE5 socket with BT Piper log, being fed from a black cable with /white and white/blue wires connected to terminals 2 and 5. This socket has no lower front part, the test socket is exposed. This also feeds a further NTE5 socket with BT Piper log in the same room via on-skirting-board cable.
I guess my question is whether any of this is going to be a problem once I get Sky BB enabled? (Sky has just in the past few days increased capacity in the local exchange!)
Will BT freak if they ever see that there is no official NTE5 in place? Its obvious their wiring has been tampered with but by previous tenants.
(Previous tenants also screwed with the already laid Sky TV cables and re-aligned the dish to pick up some Spanish system. BT are also saying they may have been on another phone provider too)

Re: Bizarre custom telephone wiring
Are you sure that the first "Blanking plate" is not an NTE-5 as the NTE-5 comes with a variety of faceplate options including a blank one. If there is no NTE-5 installed then now is the time to mention it to BT and ask them to install one as part of enabling the line you are just having activated.

Re: Bizarre custom telephone wiring
Its definitely just a blank.
4 hours ago BT fully enabled my line. MY number is now recognised by the Sky BB check, however even though Sky had LLU availability 5 hours ago, they can only offer me connect now!
Now, which better of two evils will I go for? BT BB or SKY BB ? hmmm?

Re: Bizarre custom telephone wiring
That's bad luck
As far as the ADSL service is concerned, they should both be pretty much identical. If you go BT then for the extra money you pay you get access to Giganews, Homehub/internet phone and a few other small things.
Are there any other LLU operators in your exchange? The O2 deal looks as good as Sky's (if you have an O2 contract mobile).
