^^^ That's my understanding too. ^^^ The input connections on a master socket are labelled A and B, they're not numbered.

As for the charge for getting BT to do this, they will "regularise" an illicit or old socket if requested when you take the line over (say if you've just moved into the house) for a small fee (I think it's about £25/30), but they do usually charge a lot more if you ask them to do it at a later date.

The thing to do is just change it yourself, they will have no record of what is actually fitted nor any proof that it was you that fitted it.

for now it will take out a 20ft loop of wire and all the extensions in the house
which are not needed in fact they are all disconnected but the place will be neater.

i will look into the filterd face plate when i sort it out.

Yes, B & Q, Wickes, Focus - any of them open tomorrow! It is a standard box the same size as a single power point or lightswitch.

I am sure someone will correct me but I think Orange from the drop goes to B on the master socket (extension feed Blue/White on pin 2) and White goes to A on the master (extension feed White/Blue on pin 5) although polarity apparently isn't important.

That's what I meant by polarity apparently isn't important. I would still leave them connected the BT way! Orange to B and white to A.
