If our local Openreach guy is to be believed then I would have thought so.

We have had two of our other houses rewired and they were done for free.

Edit: Just read your last reply, I guess that BT want to squeeze as much money as possible as they can from certain people.

they don't want you to know that the master socket is their property.

that's how the person played it at first.

so i sent a complaint through customer services.

119 call out to look at their property.

      Re: can i replace this

You can get genuine BT master NTE5s for a silly price on eBay. Or you can buy a non-BT NTE5 box for less. The logical thing is to fit an NTE-2005 or XTE-2005 faceplate to this. Maybe you can get these faceplates with a back box, I don't know.
By the way, the incoming BT drop wires go to terminals A and B on the rear, not terminals 2/5. They are for phone extensions.

      Re: can i replace this

Not sure if the extension box will be OK

      I would put blue/white to 2 and white/blue to 5

      Re: can i replace this

      Just do the same

      Orange/white - 2 White/Orange - 5

Be prepared to reverse if it don't work.

      Re: can i replace this

I am sure someone will correct me but I think Orange from the drop goes to B on the master socket (extension feed Blue/White on pin 2) and White goes to A on the master (extension feed White/Blue on pin 5) although polarity apparently isn't important.
