    cat 5 wiring

      cat 5 wiring

      Hi

      Just wiring in a telephone extension using cat5 cable but do i just use the 4 pairs twisted together or use one wire out of each pair

      Use whicever you like, - its just a peice of metal with coloured plastic around it.

      ^ Wrong its twisted for a reason it cuts high frequency noise which is why people who connect there routers using cheap plug in extension leads often run into problems. You should only connect two wires to pins 2 and 5 of your master and extension socket and use a pair of wires which are twisted together. Leave the other 4 / 6 wires disconnected.
