2 Questions on cable & router setup please.

Good morning all, This is my first post on this brilliant website,

my first question is, my BT box is located in the hall i have two extensions running off it,(hard wired) one goes into the kitchen, and the other one travels upstairs across the landing and round three walls, connected off this is a cable going back along two of the walls into a second bedroom to a socket (for router) directly above the hallway where the master socket is, what i would like to do is disconnect the cable going up the stairs and connect a smaller cable going straight up from the master socket to the router socket directly above it,which in turn would power the telephone in main bedroom,is it alright to have your router connected this way with a phone linked after it? ie master socket, router, phone, at the moment its master, phone, then router, second question is, the cable that came with the router extension kit is different in colours to normal cable, there are four wires white, blue, green,& red,the wire is solid silver looking, only two are connected to two & five, it works very well, soory for being long winded, but i didnt know how else to explain query, thanks in advance,

      Should be

You reall yonly need the 2 wires connected, unless you have an old type phone, as the 3rd wire was for the ringer. If it works fine, then why worry.

      NewsreadeR,
Thanks very much, it is working fine at the moment, i was worried that the connections i had in mind might alter it in someway,i will disconnect the long cable going upstairs but leave it where it is,then connect the smaller one and see what happens, if its ok i will remove u/s cable, just noticed you are the founder of this site, a lot of excellent advice on here for people like myself, thankyou very much,

Connected as above, checked all extensions with router on and all is working fine, just two wires going to numbers two and five throughout, thanks again.
