      McAfee Wireless Network Security

      Hi all,

I have just installed McAfee Total protection 2007, this includes McAfee Wireless Network Security, I try to protect my network with this service but I get error messages, Apparently the software is compatible with the Netgear DG834GT
      1.02.04
      1.01.28
      1.01.00

But I dont think these are any of the sky router, so the question I want to ask is if I flash the firmware on the sky router to the netgear version can I still use the router on the sky broadband and would the wireless network security work with my router.

Hope you can make sense of this. lol

Have you contacted McAfee by email they are usually very helpful, on a another note although I paid for McAfee suite on renewal I have uninstalled this as it interferes with my SkyBB and stops pages loading also it slowed down my PC too much for comfort, so I bit the bullet after many years of McAfee and went to NOD32 for virus and Kerio sunbelt firewall and have now absolutely no problems

Obviously it always a private preference, PC now sweet as a nut much much faster and all pages loading and no port forwarding problems.

This is the technical forum. It is OK to discuss flashing the router here. http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/askin...ing-forum.html

      Indeed I can

I've just read about this software and indeed it is very fussy about which routers and firmwares it works with. This gives you two options.
      1. Disable the wireless security bit of the software and just use WPA encryption. Unless you are extremely paranoid or work for some secret agency, this will suffice for normal usage.
      2. Flash the firmware to one of the standard netgear ones. You can go back to the Sky firmware if necessary at a later date.

If you have no other reason to go with 2, I'd suggest option 1.
