      Printing from wireless laptop

      Hi

I have Sky Fibre with the Sagem Fast2504n router. Here is what I want to achieve..

I want to print from my wireless laptop to my Canon iP5200 printer which is connected via USB to my wireless desktop PC.

I have sharing switched on on my desktop PC printer, but when I search for a printer on my laptop I dont see any other printer or even a network to search for one on. Am I missing something?

You have to do several things:

1 switch on sharing on your laptop
2 share the printer specifically on your desktop
3 install the printer driver on your laptop (the operating system MAY do this automatically but with reduced functionality)

Set up a Workgroup if you have mixed OSs, ie, Win 7 and XP.
      Join or create a workgroup

If you both have Win 7, them set up a Homegroup-
Home sweet homegroup: Networking the easy way in Windows 7

You will find sharing Files, Documents, Music and Printers much easier.

      Re: Printing from wireless laptop

Hmmm, must be something very fundemental missing here. I dont see anything when I try and add my printer. Wireless laptop has the driver installed; the printer (USB connected to my wirelessly connected desktop PC) is set to Shared.

I go... Start > Printers and Faxes > Add a printer > Next > select a network printer or printer attached to another computer > select Connect to this printer, (or to browse for a printer, select this option and click Next). The next dialouge box then sits there searching and nothing happens.

Have you managed to network the laptop and desktop? Can you see the files on one machine from the other one?

      Re: Printing from wireless laptop

check on canon website may have to change ports or install different drivers for wlan support or connection , most on support site indicate some support for windows 7
      check using support tools

FAQ: How do I confirm communication with the printer? (Wireless LAN /Windows)

      Cause

      Answer :

To confirm whether communication with the printer is possible, use BJ Network Tool.

      1. From the Start menu, select Program, BJ Network Tool, and BJ Network Tool.

      2. BJ Network Tool can communicate with the printers that are listed in the BJ Network Tool Printer List.
If a specific printer is not detected, click Update to confirm it is listed in the Printer List.

just suggestion try setting up with usb first

I forgot to mention: you must also set at least one drive/folder to be shared on each PC.

Can you see any laptop shares from the desktop; it should work both ways.

      Regards,

      Felix
