Does FW 1.9Sky prevent upgrading to generic Sagem firmware?

I have been given a Sagem Sky Router with 1.9Sky loaded into it. I am on Talk Talk and would like to use this router to replace both a Belkin ADSL modem + Netgear Wireless cable modem into one single package.

I have read lots of pages about upgrading to generic firmware before I started but have got stuck. Every time I choose the upgrade router option (http://192.168.0.1/sky_router_upgrade.html) and supply it either 3.18, 3.21 or 3.24 Sagem versions the router accepts the files, either .W (xxx_flash_image_xxx) or with no extension (xxx_fs_kernel_xxx) then shows an "uploading" page (http://192.168.0.1/sky_uploadinfo.html) and finally it comes back to the main page (http://192.168.0.1/sky_router_status.html). However, I was expecting the router to now be waiting at 192.168.1.1 so my browser should eventually timeout on 192.168.0.1/sky_uploadinfo.html. At this point I would then be swapping my IP address over to 192.168.1.x but as the flashing doesn't seemed to have worked there is no point in doing that.

All the items I have read seem to be quite old (2008) so I am guessing they were all on 1.5Sky whereas I am on 1.9Sky.

I even tried to pull the power plug during an upload hoping that this would brick the router (flashing TICK light) and I could then use the recovery mode to flash the router but this didn't work. I couldn't brick it!

Am I doing something really stupid or has the 1.9Sky prevented got some clever stuff to only allow official Sky upgrades rather than any valid flash file?

I also saw something that said 1.1Sky is on the Sky CD but all I could find on my CD was a file "1.9Sky".

      Thanks
      Darren

Have you looked at the PDF in this thread post 22?

Re: Does FW 1.9Sky prevent upgrading to generic Sagem firmware?

Thank you for the instructions. The process was exactly the same as I had seen on another page.Your download links were different but the resultant 3.18 and 3.24 files were identical.

I followed them and got exactly the same result as before, i.e. 1.9Sky was still there. However, the PDF highlighted one difference that I had noticed anywhere else, namely browser choice (I saw it in the Internet Explorer not being able to see 192.168.0.1 after the successful flash).

I then repeated the same process but used Internet Explorer instead of my preferred choice of Google Chrome. BINGO it flashed OK

For the record my setup is

Windows 7Home Premium 64 bit on an AMD 64 X2 + all latest patches
Google Chrome (fully patched) - did not flash the router
Internet Explorer 9 Beta - 64 bit - successfully flashed the router to generic software

I mention this because I know you have helped lots of others so you might want to bear this point in mind.

      Once again many thanks.

Thanks for the headsup, I have added a note to the post pointing this out.
