      DG834GT upgrade failing

      Hi,
I am trying to upgrade my sky DG834GT router so that I can use it with a new ISP.
I have used the recovery utilities but after selecting the network card and clicking 'next' I just get a mesage indicating that necesary information cannot be found (sorry - typical enduser, didn't write down the exact message )

Have tried two different PCs with the same result.
Anyone know where I go from here?

Are you using XP? Some have got it to work with the later OSs, but the utility is not really compatible.

      Re: DG834GT upgrade failing

From experience I have discovered that this flashing procedure is very dependant on the network card you have in your computer.

I always use Windows XP as mentioned but I have to do this using an old laptop which has an old network adapter in it. When I try any of my newer machines with modern network adapters in them I get the same sort of error as the OP, despite them running on XP

      Re: DG834GT upgrade failing

The reason laptops tend to work and desktops don't is that laptops tend to have 2 adaptors and desktops only one.

There is a bug in the netgear utility that causes it to fail if there is only one adapter installed. It is noticeable as you get corrupted graphics when running the utility with one set of figures overlaying another.

If this is the OPs problem then installing the Microsoft loopback adapter is the suggested work around.

Found a PC with XP on it -- it worked fine!
      Thank you.

Username and password still the sky defaults. I thought that reflashing it would give it Netgear defaults.
Oh well, hey ho. I don't really care so long as it'll work with my new ISP

I dont know why people keep trying to use vista/7 with the recovery utility, most of the time using them the utility crashes your computer effectively bricking your router.
