      Using non sky router

      Hi

I've been having a lot of problems with my original sky router. So I bought a Belkin play max router (not realising skys t&cs).

I'm unable to get the Belkin router to connect to the internet. I've used the password generator and all the settings I could find on this forum, but I'm not having any luck. Can anyone help.

      Thanks

You need the username/password from this site:

      https://www.cm9.net/skypass/

And the other settings needed are these:

      Encapsulation: PPPoA
      VPI/VCI: 0/38
      Multiplexing: VC

There's not a lot else needed, you just have to be sure you're using the correct details for the logins

      Re: Using non sky router

Tried that last night. Cut and pasted from the password generator so as not to make any typos. But still not working. I used the LAN mac address and not the adsl one. Are there any other settings I need to check?

      Thanks

Other than what I put, no...you must be making a mistake somewhere as it does work...what Sky router do you have (just making sure it's not a D-Link)?

I've got the first router sky issued the White netgear. I've got all my settings correct as far as I can see, it must be my username and password.

      Thanks

With the white router you ave the advantage of being able to check you password in a few different ways, check with one or more of these to see if you have it right..

I'm not 100% confident in flashing the router. I don't think I can use the other tools either as I have a Mac running OSX10.6. Are there any ways round this for Mac users?

If you don't fancy installing James' firmware, I don't think there is any apps available for Macs. The only thing I can suggest is that you get a friend with a Windows laptop to come in and check for you.

I have a working url to do it somewhere, if I could find it...

However, you can get it using a telnet client.

Click on the "Enable telnet" url on this webpage Mel's Notes: Dg834gt-1skuk

Open a telnet client on you mac, connect to the router and use copy and paste to enter the following command :-

      nvram show|grep pppoa_[up]
