We're not asking you to connect to the main socket, we're asking you to connect to the TEST socket as shown in that link I've posted. Do you actually have an NTE5 socket? Can you post a pic please?

      Re: Slow download speed problem

I got my next-door neighbour who works for BT to do it. He said there is nothing wrong with the line. Anyway I phoned up sky again this time talking to someone that speaks English properly and he said the line has been re-configured and should work again in 2 days.

2-3 weeks ago I was getting a low of 5mb on the same line and socket so..... It can't be the line? we will see. I've also phoned up 02 and if it doesn't work I'm gonna switch over to them with up to 20Meg download speed.

      This is like pulling teeth

If you don't post your stats from the TEST socket, we cannot isolate the problem, it must be from the TEST socket, not the one in your picture.

There is no way that even a BT engineer can tell what a line is like unless he gets the stats from the router.

Just because it was ok a few weeks ago does not mean that it is ok now, things fail etc.

If it is a fault with the internal or external line then you will still have the same fault with O2, they will also use this line.

If you do what has been asked (on a few occasions now) we can help, if you don't then I cannot really see the point in you continuing in this thread

That is a fob off, if the line were really reconfigured it would show the result immediately, you would not have to wait 2 days.
The socket you show in your pic looks like an extension, where does the wire going into it come from?
