      Sky DG834GT and Linux

      Hi all
I need some advice I have just got a Sky Netgear DG834GT , as far as I know it is new and unused. What I want to do is use it with another ISP using the Netgear or DGTeam firmware . Will I have to use the netgear recovery tool ? and if I do is it safe/possible to do this in Linux ? Any advice on how I can get this router working will be really appreciated
      Thanks Steve

I doubt it. I think the utility is for Windows but try looking at the Netgear web site they may offer linux versions.

Yes you will have to use the recovery utility. The router will otherwise reject updates with non Sky firmware.

The utility was designed to wipe corrupt firmware -- but will also wipe Sky's firmware, leaving a blank that you can fill with Netgear's factory firmware or the 3rd party one you mention.

Refer to the tutorials here -- it's a pretty simple procedure but snags can arise. Always do it with the router connected to the computer via an ethernet cable (not wireless under any circumstances).
