I have looked at the Belkin F5D8635UK4A & the Linksey EBR3-WGKUSB160N. But would like advice from people who have had good routers

Forget wireless and get a Speedtouch 546v6 (about 20 now I should think) and a couple of homeplugs if your router is a long way from your computer.

I am using a Netgear DG834Gv5 and is very good. It also gives a very good connection speed and i don't think the wireless is too bad ether well it isn' t for me, it is better than the sky router, i get a signal of 80% from downstairs.

      Re: New Non Sky Router

Apologies for jumping on this thread, but I am too dim to see how to start a new one.
Basically I am looking for advice on extending my wireless broadband upstairs. We have concrete floors so the signal does not reach the bedroom from the sky router in the study. When I disconnnect it and plug it into a phone point upstairs it works fine. Is it possible to have two routers running at once? (ie just buy a second router) or is there a recommended way of extending the range?

      Thanks in advance

Just buy some homeplugs, these use the houses electrical wiring to send the broadband signal around the house and unlike wireless give you wired performance.

      Re: New Non Sky Router

Two routers connected at once will not work.

The easiest way is to fit a couple of homeplugs, these can be fitted to any mains sockets in the house and eill act like a wired network.

If you need wireless, you canget a homeplug with a wireless extender built in and then just move it to any area you need to improve the signal in.

You can keep adding homeplugs as needed.

You can get them on e-bay from 30-40 a pair.

The best thing about the netgear DG834Gv5 is that the chipset is matched to the exchange equipment and gives you a higher sync speed, with the sky router I got 11Mb with my router I get 13Mb and the upstream is also increased currently at 1.1Mb sky router syncs at 950Kbps.

I have to agree with the previous posters, Homeplugs are a far better solution, they are faster and more reliable than wireless and not subject to the whims of your neighbours..

      Re: New Non Sky Router

Well got my New Netgear DGN2000 Yesterday set it up & I get about 1mb more download My stats from the Test socket are;-
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 13200 kbps 1176 kbps
Line Attenuation 32.0 db 16.3 db
Noise Margin 7.1 db 7.9 db

I get the same from my other socket in the house as I run the W/G & G/W unfilterd wires from the master filter plate to my other socket
I have interleaving on the line, do not know why as I have just left Orange, after 18 months on LLU in same exchange but on Fast track with no problems....

I would appreciate any coments on my Line stats please
