Netgear v Netgear - a bit like Kramer vs Kramer!

      Morning all,

I have just migrated from Zen broadband onto Sky's max package, as I wanted HD telly, and the missus said I could only get it if I made a 10 saving somewhere, so Zen had to go! (Yes, I am under the thumb).

Anyhoo, the migration completed yesterday, and I'm getting onto the internet fine, but the new router is pants (it's the Netgear one that looks like the HD box I've got to wait 3 months for!! ). Having read reviews online, I expected the wireless signal to be far superior than that of my old non-Sky Netgear DG834G, but I'm barely getting a signal upstairs now - it just keeps dropping out. My inferior previous generation Netgear was fine upstairs, and talking to my Xbox, unlike this new plastic paperweight!!

So a couple of questions -

      1) Is there anything that I can do to check whether I've just got a dud router - could this be the case, or does it really send out a crap signal.

      2) Is there anything I can do to get my old router working in the meantime, if I do need a new one??

Have you tried changing the router channel, start at 13 and work down.

Right, I've been through the channels, and picked out the strongest signal, but it still keeps dropping out - any more suggestions please peeps!!
