      Problems with router Jamming!

Since i upgraded from my old isp to sky, ive been having problems with my router browsing the internet and playing games! I find its fine, and then i will reconnect or change servers and my latency will increase from 50 to 120 restarting the router normally fixes the problem. I was wondering if anyone is having the same problem or knows a way to fix it, it might be a simple firmware update but im a nub so some help would be much appreciated! There are 2 computers connected through ethernet on a netgear DG934G. Many thanks

      re: Problems with router Jamming!

Your router should be syncing at the maximum with your attenuation infact if you moved to max you should be getting near 16mb. I think you may have noise on your line that is building up errors until the router starts to hang.

Have you changed you filter and do you have them fitted on all used phone sockets? and how are you connected to the phone sockets, can you describe your phone line setup?

Maybe but she should still be syncing at the top end 8mb, with that attenuation and that noise margin is this not an indication of noise on the line?

If the issue was connect then why would a router re-boot sort it out?

      re: Problems with router Jamming!

I agree, it should be syncing at the maximum with a high noise margin. Plugging into the Test socket will rule out internal line faults. Link below. If the sync and noise margin rise, then you will have to do some work on your internal wiring.

Errors building up will not really cause a problem, but a rise in the error rate will. Rebooting the router allows it to sync at a lower speed, which reduces the error rate.

      re: Problems with router Jamming!

i have just 1 phone line a standard box with a filter the filter may be a few years old also so maybe replacing it is needed. The router downstairs also goes to a splitter in my room, but with or without the splitter the problem still occurs! Again im an amateur so OP on connect (check upstream) means nothing to me! Ive learned how to do the test socket thanks to this site again, so i will check that and post back with info!

Ps. Im very greatfull for all the help, the first forum ive posted this on where people are willing to help, much love

Stats from the test socket (not a very long time tho)

Don't worry none of us have a clue what we're talking about

Test socket stats indicate that the noise on the line is not your internal setup, unless it's the filter. You don't need to have it plugged in there long, the stats should remain the same.

If you plug a standard corded phone into the test socket, can you hear any noise? crackles or pops, you should only have a faint background hum.

You have your broadband as Sky Base, Sky do a few different options depending on our phone exchange, Sky base, Sky Connect (this is actually a BT package resold by Sky), Sky Mid and Sky Max, are you sure you're on Sky Base?

      Re: Problems with rotuer Jamming!

Test socket stats indicate that the noise on the line is not your internal setup
There is a 1db improvement in the Attenuation which could indicate an internal fault, but the speed increase could just be down to the line being very quiet when the stats were taken. I am inclined to agree that most of the problem appears to be external, although a faulty router cannot be ruled out.

I don't think there is any doubt that it is a Connect line, which makes it more difficult to get fixed. If there is no apparent noise on the voice line then getting an improvement might prove very difficult. The only thing that may help is reporting an intermittent disconnection. Complaining about latency increasing will not get anything done, saying that it disconnects completely may.

      Re: Problems with router Jamming!

Im not 100% sure im on sky base, I have the internet sky and telephone deal witch i think is 8meg! I have also removed the telephone extenstion cable from the sky box completley and it seems to have improved the problem, 2 days strong with no differnce in the connection as bad as it was before! My internet is still genrally really slow though.
