      Sagem broken! Non-sky router capped @ 64kbps only!!

      Hi everyone,

      I've just joined sky broadband yesterday and discovered after 4hrs of support my Sagem adsl link/port is broken so Sky are sending a replacement. the @ sign blinks orange and never goes green (wireless lan is fine).

      In the meantime I've extracted the username and password and configured my trusty netgearDG834g (the adsl link light quickly goes green). I openly spoke to Sky and said if they won't provide my credentials and still make me wait 5 days for a replacement router (when I work from home and depend on a connection) I will use a non-sky router and retrieve the user/pass through other means despite the T+Cs.

      This has got me past the chap authentication stage and I've now got internet access but it appears to be capped at 64kbps!

      I contacted sky, explained im not happy with the whole situation and all they said suspiciously was "I shouldnt even be able to make a connection with the faulty router?". I didn't tip toe around, and demanded to know if they're capping me for using a non-sky router and they assured me they dont do that.

      <breath>... ... they seem to think my replacement router will solve the 64kbps problem??.. I personally think they can see its not a sky router (mac address mismatch etc) and I'm being screwed.

      Any thoughts on fixing this problem? or advice on cooling off periods to redeem my **** of a mistake of switching provider to save 20 per month?

      I doubt the problem has anything to do with not using the sky router. Lots of people are using their own routers without problems.

      I suspect you were put onto test speed during the fault finding process on your original sagem router and are still on it. Only sky will be able to resolve this.

      test speed my friend - from when it didn't connect before you get capped down...

      it should've really been set back to normal profile but SO many agents don't bother...

      also - if you work from home buy a business connection...Sky BB is for CONSUMER use and it's against T&C's to use it for business use (awaits the 'oh, i only send emails' reply)...

      sending email while I "work from home"? you sir give me too much credit

      It would appear I can't reach tier 2 support to change my profile simply because im not using a sky router, so i have to wait for my new sky router, go through all the tier 1 checks again to get through to tier 2 so they can push a button. Love it!

      I suspect you're a sky agent, anychance you can do it? thanks

      On your broken sagem router check that the little "fingers" in the RJ11 socket are not bent or twisted. That is often the cause of problems like yours.

      I could - but as you said, you don't have a working Sky router and I can't be seen to agreeing with someone breaking the rules now can i?...

      The replacement router will probably be with you by Friday, once it's arrived plug it in and see what the Sych speed is. If it's still the test speed call up Tier 1, they will put you through a quick set of checks and pass it to CST who will reset the config.

      Hey everyone,

      Thanks for everyones comments. I spoke to sky today through customer care and they've put my profile back to normal and I have a very satisfactory 6mb connection (my previous provider only delivered 3mb from a 8mb service).

      Due to the circumstances they will overlook the use of a non-sky router as long as I use the new one when it arrives. I really have no reason not use a sky router as long as it works

      Anyway, happy customer, the end

      Hi can somebody help me i recently got sky broadband, i can't connect my desktop computer wirelessly, the router is a netgear DG934G v2.It connects for a limted time and go off the router is downstair and the computer is in the bedroom.I am using a netgear wireless adapter which is max range. I have also spoken to sky tec guys they changed the channel from 11 to 6 and also changed wpa to wep. my PS3 connect fine.PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!
