To be honest no more ideas.

If you are getting the same error on both PCs I can only assume something that you use on both is interfering with the upgrade utility.

I have never needed to use the rmdrv utility and they only problem I have encountered is corrupt screens on some hardware.

Perhaps someone else has some suggestions?

      ZyXEL G-202 wireless USB Adapter
Are you trying to do this by wireless, as this is a wireless adapter? If so, it is a no-no. You must connect by ethernet cable and if you are, the adapter you are connecting with should be shown in the list. If it is not, then I would guess a driver problem, try reinstalling the latest manufacturers drivers.

You may also have to trick the router into accepting the FW, if the router is not found at the next stage.

Re: Help needed to sort out dg834gt

I am not sure if it will work for you but this is what I did in a similar situation.

Open the Netgear Recovery Utility folder and move the .img file to somewhere else. Don't delete it, you'll need it later.
Download this firmware image for the DG834PN router and put it into the Recovery Utility folder. Rename it to firmware.img
Start the Recovery Utility as usual, using the RmDrv.exe. from the Recover Utility folder. You now have to get past No 6 in THIS tutorial to get to this stage, which seems to be your problem.
The router should then be found and it's MAC address shown. At this point, don't click Next yet. Delete the PN image file then copy the DG834GT image back into the folder and rename it firmware.img
Now click Next and the upgrade should proceed as normal.

When you are doing this make sure that nothing else is connected to the router except the PC you are using for the upgrade and also make sure you are disconnected from the internet by unplugging the RJ11 connector. Switch off any other PCs/Laptops to ensure they are not trying to connect by wireless.

Assuming that you don't have 3 ZyXEL G-202 wireless USB Adapters, it sounds like you might have some orphaned network cards in the PC configuration. As moleman said, the upgrade utility is very fussy and that could throw it.

And exactly what did it show and what happened when you tried it?

Old thread I know but people on vista should make sure both exe files are ticked for xp comaptibility mode, run as administrator, disable visual themes and also disable desktop composition.

That should stop the crashes during flash.

I have tried this now so many times with 5 different machines, and every time I get to the screen where I have to click Upgrade, I do so and nothing happens
