Urgent Help Needed, Bricked My D834gt V1

Well I can confirm that WinPcap does indeed appear to fix problems people are having with finding their Router, after I installed this in Vista it found the Router straight away.

Unfortunately I summise that it doesn't work in Vista. I know this because as soon as the update began flashing the EEPROM I got a blue screen of death.

Now my router won't reboot and won't appear when I do a search for it. I fear that I have completely broke it. As soon as it powers on it immediately is going to the alternating lights and won't stop.

So to summize it seems that James has stumbled on a fix for the Netgear recover utility by using WinPcap but it doesn't work in Vista only in XP and below.

Any ideas for an extremely concerned Sky user on how to fix my Router or is it truly "dead"

Previous posts where vista has blue screened have left the router believing itself to be a DG834PN. If you were to put this firmware into the same directory as the recovery utility it may then detect the router. If so you could then try the trick of swapping that firmware file for a renamed DG834GT file and allowing the utility to run. If you must keep trying to do this under vista I would at least run it in XP compatibility mode.

I don't think James 'stumbled' on it, he has a overclocked quad pumped CPU for a brain and knows how to use it

Sorry if you have bricked it, at least I know not to try it in Vista

I went round to my parents and attempted to do it, but the WinPcap utility doesn't appear to work as well in there's - i.e. I have the same problem that I used to have - stupid screen display going all wierd as others have had. Time to go get my Vista machine again and try runnning it in compatibility mode.

      Moleman, do you mean a DG384PN or a DG834PN?

Oops I meant a DG834PN, it was a mistype. (but the link went to the right firmware).

Thanks, i'm going to try Vista's compatibility mode because it's the only thing I can think of given that my parents XP setup doesn't work, also I can confirm VMWare also doesn't work - although I anticipated this to be a long shot anyway because it uses Virtual Network cards.

      So did mine

After months of trying I finally managed to get it to work. As I see it, there are really 2 problems to be overcome. The first is having the right hardware so that the graphic part of the utility works without corrupting the image. The second is that even after using the recovery utility, the proper GT image file is not recognised, it has to be 'fooled' by using the 'wrong' image. In this case the PN version enabled the router to be found and upgraded.

I tried using James' Windump method, but this failed with an 'invalid adapter index' error. Using the file substitution and rename method, worked first time.

You could try putting a different digit after the '-i' like this…
      Code:
      windump -i 1 -w nru.dump

Re: Urgent Help Needed, Bricked My D834gt V1

Funnily enough by accident I actually did a D834PN upgrade and most of the features worked without fault.

What does your ADSL Firmware Version read? - mine appears to be stuck on A2pB022c.d20e still and furthermore Mossywell's utility is still able to display my Sky username and password. Infact the only real difference i've noticed is the ability to be able to update firmware through the Netgear web site ???

is this normal and can anyone confirm what A2pB022c.d20e changes to after Sky's latest firmware update. i.e are all the changes made at the Firmware version or at the ADSL Firmware version?

      Chris.
