wiped routers - still not working

My aunt has two of the V1 White Routers. I flashed them both successfully. No problems whatsoever, but when I plug them into her modem, then connect to them through a laptop - I am getting no connection (no ping/etc)

I know this post is pretty vague but the flashing went successfully (I tried re-flashing them from her computer also)

I should note she has switched to BT but they did not provide a wireless router with the installation. The internet works fine when connected through an Ethernet cable.
      anyone?

Re: wiped routers - still not working

If you reflash a Sky router with the generic Netgear firmware so that it can be used on any ISP, it's probably a good idea to reset the router to default settings - go to http://192.168.0.1/, click on the Backup Settings link then click on the Revert to Factory Default Settings button.

You'll need to set up the router configuration again from scratch, but clearing out the "residue" of Sky settings should help. Don't forget to configure the router with suitable wireless security settings - the default for the generic Netgear firmware is to have no security at all, and it's not a good idea to leave it like that.

Re: wiped routers - still not working

Ok - for some reason when I want to connect to the net I need to reboot the router (through 192.168.0.1), once I do this the internet works fine but I can no longer access the router.

      any advice?

If I leave the computer to idle and come back to it I'll need to do this all over again - wtf.

Why use the modem, can't you connect the router direct to the phone line? It may give less problems.
