      The only problem i have found is that the utility will not work with windows vista so if you are trying to flash using that forget it.

      "so dont do it" what sort of help is that?

      I am doing it because it doesn't work!!

      Netgear have now RMA'd it because of faulty hardware!!

      Well it might not be helpful, but it's good advice. Some people seem to get themselves into all manner of difficult situations and end up having to ask for help. It would be quite reasonable to say that when it comes to doing things like reflashing your router, or extracting your password and using a diferent router, you should only do it if you're sufficiently competent to be able to resolve any problem, that might occur, yourself.

      ^^ i think he was asking what did not work with the standard sky router (that made you want to flash it)

      I found that the recovery utility found on the Sky CD didn't work on my computer. But i downloaded the one off Netgear and that did work? Maybe different versions?

      I've found the answer to the problem of the DG834 Recovery Utility when it hangs or freezes, so that the display continues through to the next screen. I wanted to post in the netgear forum where I found it but I'm not a registered customer so I can't sign up. It took me fricking ages but I can't take the credit.

      The last guy has it right - if you only have one network adapter then the program freezes. I solved it by going through the add hardware wizard (XP) and manually installing the Microsoft Loopback Adapter. I can provide more detailed instructions if anyone else actually has this problem and needs them. I just thought I ought to put the solution out there somewhere as it took me so long to find it, and it was something so little and silly in the end!

      I had no trouble using the utility with my desktop PC; it has 2 network chips and ports, so that would support the theory.

      i have just been given a NG (sky) router which flashes between the power and check indicators so as i couldn't log in, i following the advice from this site and tried the recovery utility for it (dg934gt) but whilst things started ok, it failed after the message erasing eeprom... started. tried redoing it but now i can't even get to see the device on any of my pcs. i.e. via the rj45. all i get is a limited connectivity message no default gateway, DNS or WINS server and the IP address is 169.254.121.86.

      i have a working NG dg834 which i also tried on the rj45 connection and that was fine.

      i assume that i can't do anything until i get a connection on the lan but how do i do this or is the router now U/S?

      NG tech support have been worse than useless.

      oh and i can't log in via http://192.168.0.1

      is there anything on the sky disc originally supplied with the unit that may help?

      i recall on a couple of occasions when i was with virgin media if i had a problem with their modem sometimes their disc solved the problem.

      but maybe it's just U/S?
