Speeds drop off to nothing constantly. Pls Help!

      Hi,

I am using my Sky Netgear router, which with the help of this forum, I flashed, and now use to connect to Tiscali (I know it's a Sky forum, sorry but don't know where else to go with this).

The problem is that when I am online, the speed drops to the point where web pages won't load, and I get the "internet explorer cannot display this page" message.

The annoying technical help people say there's nothing wrong with the broadband I'm getting, and it's almost at the max I subscribe to, which is 2 something or others.

It is sooo annoying, i can be doing something online, and all of a sudden it grinds to a halt, and to fix it I have to do the repair connection thing. This can happen every few minutes at night.

Please please can someone help me???

      Thanks,

      Kate.

Re: Hi, pls help. Connection drops constantly....

Sorry your not a "SKYUSER" cant help! LOL.
It sounds like line errors/extension wiring issues, check out the section on router stats http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/router-stats/ , how to extract them. Read some of the posts in that section, should give you an idea what to look for.

Are you able to achieve a stable wired connection? Best to be sure in case your problem isn't wireless related. If the wired connection is ok you could leave improving the wiring til later.

If a wired connection works and your wireless connection is variable/unstable it sounds like it could be a wireless quality/range issue

How far is your PC from your router? Try with the PC and the router right next to each other. Does the problem persist? My experience is that a close up connection is ok but becomes unstable at any distance. The Sky router doesn't have a good range (in my view) but if you are able to isolate this as your problem the way forward is clearer (lots of posts on this if you search).

      Good luck
