      Remote Management & VNC access

      Hi,

      I have turn on Remote Mangement but still I cannot connect to console from outside world.

      Also, I have configured REalVNC server on port 5901 and have created a service for this and and have allowed this service in firewall rules inbound services.

      But again from my office when I try to connect using my ip address using the following ip

      90.xx.xx.xx:5901 if allways fails to connect.

      Not only this even when i try to ping from outside world to my ip address it always times out.

      just something to ask can you ping your machine from another location is it your office router thats blocking the connection or in your router have you got the respond to ping box ticked in the wan setup page that will help

      You could try something like www.logmein.com

      Admittedly it is for a web server, but for a VNC server, it's the same sort of thing - just a different port. Two really important things to do / bear in mind:

      1. Ignore any of the rumours that say Sky block certain ports / ip addresses - they don't!

      2. Try to tackle each problem one-by-one. So, treat remote management as a separate problem from VNC Server.

      as an aside

      I have given up on remote access as provided for by the Netgear router - the SKY fiddling on this makes it almost a redundant package. logemein.com is free and easier to use.

      I don't think the Remote Management provided by the router is meant for this purpose. It is there to allow remote technicians access to adjust the routers setting, not for access to your network.

      Again use VNC, and works all the time.
