      DG835GT firmware WONT upgrade HELP

I am trying to upgrade the firmware on my Sky router DG834gt but cant get past the second blue sreen without the error message: (below link)

      Sky user upgrade link
      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-r...assword-6.html

      Message reads
Could not get system information correctly - exit upgrade and execute RMDrv.exe then run upgrade again - even though it was already running.

I have followed the upgrade proceedure to the letter and I have also tried this upgrade on 4 diiferent computer still unable to flash the firmware.
I have also tried to the Netgear website and tried there recovery proceedure and tried using third party firmware img files - still the same.

I have turned off all security on the computers and tried various reconfigurations of the network connections to no avail, I can log into the router OK and tinker with the settings and have obtained password etc etc

Also tried using the reset with the lights flashing and without them flashing.

ME _ WELL AND TRULEY STUCK

      CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE

      THANKS

      STEVE

Re: DG835GT firmware WONT upgrade HELP

Is there anything wrong with the router? Is this the reason for the attempt flash?

I flashed mine the other day for fun, was a simple enough procedure and it worked first time.

I put the router into flash mode (so that the power light is alternate flashing with the modem status light)

Ran the flash program, it picked up the device, and apeared to have frozen, it was stuck at 0% for probably 1 minute (which is a long time for having no activity while flashing) and jsut as i was about to kill the power, it started copying the flash file, it took about a further minute.

Are you waiting for long enough?

      Hope this helps.

Indeed. Microsoft re-wrote the whole IP stack in Vista and as a result, the stack no longer supports what the upgrade wizard is trying to do at the Ethernet layer.

I found that the ethernet chipset is also a factor. nVidia nForce2 failed to work, but VIA/Realtek worked first time of asking. An indication is that the dialogue box has the text boxes in the wrong positions (fairly obvious).

Yes, I've read that as well (never tried it myself and can offer no technical explanation as it sounds counterintuitive). I can say that the nvidia4 chipset works fine.

Re: DG835GT firmware WONT upgrade HELP

If your getting the flashing lights when you switch on, even if you aren't holding the reset button in, then your flash memory has been corrupted. The only way to fix this is to upload a new flash image using the Netgear Recovery Utility.

I don't think anyone's ever really worked out what makes it work, and what stops it working. You just have to keep trying different PCs, network adapters and operating systems until you get it working, I'm afraid.
