Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester

Are you happy with your current speeds from your Broadband Provider or ISP?

Take our simple Broadband Speed Test featuring upload and download tests to our servers, giving us a fairly accurate measure to the current state of play between UK Broadband ISP's.

All current UK IPS's have been added to our database, each test result by you (within a 10 minute period) is recorded into the data shown below in realtime. None UK ISP results do not feature in our results. This way the average speeds shown, are unique to that ISP, giving you a real, up to date analysis of our Data. This Data is sortable, click the header of each column, to view in ascending or descending order.

To see more information, about any of the ISP's displayed, click on the relevant ISP logo. This will take you direct to that ISP's website.

What should I have installed on my PC to use the SkyUser Broadband Speed Checker?

SkyUser's Speed Checker should work in all web browsers that support, Flash V8 and Javascript.

Why does the download or upload test not work?

If you have a firewall or antivirus software installed that is not configured properly, then it may mean that our Speed Checker will not work correctly. Try disabling the firewall / antivirus whilst you are running our Speed Checker. Don't forget, after the test has completed to turn it back on so that you remain protected.

What does Kbps mean?

Kbps means kilobits per second. Normally, when you purchase a broadband connection, ISP's offer their connections with a speed measured in Mb. In simple words, 1 Mb is equal to 1024 kilobits.

What factors could make my Speed Test Results unreliable?

Any applications that are running in the background on your PC could affect the speed, you could try temporarily disabling the following:

  • Your email checking software
  • MSN, AIM or any other Instant Messenger software
  • Listening to Internet Radio
  • Microsoft Windows Updates
  • Downloading files, torrents etc

Our upload speed test is done to servers based in the UK. If you are in a different country then our upload speed result will not be that accurate. The download speed should always be fairly accurate all around the world as we use www.cachefly.com who multiple data servers around the world.

How does the SkyUser Speed Checker work?

Our speed checker downloads a file from the server and then measures how long your connection takes to download it. The size of the file will vary, according to your detected line speed.

How accurate is the SkyUser Speed Checker?

We have tried to build the SkyUser Speed Checker to be as accurate as possible. However, there are several factors that will / can affect your test. Our speed checker measures the speed at the time of your test. If your network is running slower at that time, our speed checker will then report a slower speed. This does not mean that your internet connection may be slow at any other time.

How long will it take for the SkyUser Speed Checker to test my speed?

Roughly 20 seconds.

Can I sort the results into different formats ?

Yes. Click the headers on the relevant one, this will then sort in ISP order, download, upload, or percentage of tests taken. In ascending or descending order.

What limitations are there on using the SkyUser Speed Checker?

None at all. You are welcome to use our Speed Tester as often as you want. However, our Database will only record and display the reults from any one IP within a 10 minute period. This has been implemented to avoid duping of results and to save on Database queries.

Why does the % of Tests not show or add up to 100%?

Purely and simply, because we only want to show relevant results. ie All results from none UK ISP's will not be counted or displayed in any results analysis. The none UK ISP results are included in the total number of tests taken, but are not used for any of the average results shown.

What 'upto' speeds does the SkyUser Speed Checker test?

Our speedtester has recorded speeds of 'up to' 30Mb, however, it is highly unlikely that you would ever obtain this level of speed at the moment. Please note: All speeds offered by any UK ISP, should be measured fairly accurately. We do not display our results in any 'up to' bracket, we display all those captured. This means that the Averages taken, could be on an 'up to' line speed of 2mb, 8mb connection etc. These results are then averaged by the number of tests taken for that particular ISP, and not the total tests taken.
