Following on from the Sky / Google Email scenario, whereby people can no longer use their old email address's to send email whilst connected to Sky, we have brought online today, our SkyUser SMTP service.

This is free to use for our members and any of Sky's Broadband Customers. The Terms and Conditions are below. Hope you enjoy using it

We have simple ground rules for this:
  1. You must be a SkyUser Member.
  2. You must be on Sky Broadband.
  3. Maximum Size of emails / attachments that can be sent is set to 30mb.
  4. No more than 50 emails can be sent in one go.
  5. If you abuse or Spam and we get complaints we will delete your ability to send using our SMTP server. Any abusive / threatening emails sent by yourselves and subsequently reported to us will lead to your account being deleted.
  6. No email is to be sent by you to promote Copyright Theft / Intellectual Property Theft, ie Do not use our services to promote Torrents or any other illegal activities. If this is reported to us, we will delete your SMTP Account.
  7. There is no limit to Email address's you wish to send from.
  8. Your Username and Password will be unique to you, please do not share it with anybody else.
  9. We DO NOT offer a POP Service, this is already available for you via other means. For absolute Clarity, ours is an outgoing Server only.
  10. As this is a free service to our members, there is no Service Level Agreement, and we do not guarantee 100% Uptime, and is supplied as Goodwill and without any type of warranty.
  11. We reserve the right to alter these conditions at any time if the service is being abused.

We promise to:
  1. Act swiftly on any problems with this service.
  2. Commit to a period of 12 months, as from today, to providing this service.

Please do not use this SMTP address if you have not registered with us, as it will not authenticate.

SMTP Server setting to be used: mail.skyusermail.com

Along with the Username and Password confirmed to you by us to your Forum PM (Private Message) Account.

How to contact us to apply or tell us there is something wrong

Any problems with the SMTP server or to apply for an SMTP account, please contact us using this form, letting us know your forum username and don't forget to supply a password that you wish to use, one that is not used for anything else.

Thanks to SkyUser for doing the job Sky should be doing - i.e. providing an uncomplicated, easy setup, un-intrusive, SMTP server which does what it says on the tin.

Well Done! and Sky BB - Take note!

Thanks very much for providing this service. It's good to be able to use my mail program to send e-mails direct from my non Ssky accounts.

Not sure what your current ETAs are running to at the moment.
Please let know if you didn't recieve my PM application yesterday am.
Thanks.

Received a few minutes ago and works a treat. Thanks guys. For the less experienced user, remember in Outlook & Outlook Express to tick the "Server requires authentication box" and under SETTINGS you don't want to use the same settings as the Incoming Server so you need to check the box for the Username and Password as supplied in your confirmation. Sorry if that's stating the obvious.

I know this is a free service and there are no SLAs - so I not pushing - however any ideas as to when my application request from 23rd April might be processed?

what outgoing server port number should I be using - it is on 25 at present and still can't send outgoing mail
dxjones on 11 May, 2008 22:38:42
avatar
AS well as confirmation of the port numbers when trying to send outgoing mail outlook repeatedly asks for user name and password for the server and does not acknowldge them when put in - it just asks for them again and again

I think related to my first comment I get a message sent backk after pressing test account settings (for which it ticks most bits - just logging onto incoming email server fails, but we get incoming anyway; it says it send test email OK)

VBScript: McAfee Virus Scan

Response received is :533 We do not relay without RFC authentication

Have you applied for an account as per the instructions above?
dxjones on 12 May, 2008 21:42:04

No, sorry my mistake - got myself confused as it says you will CONFIRM a username and password in a private message; pressumably the ones I have put on the application form? Any done that tonight and will give it all another go after getting the PM - Thanks
NewsreadeR on 12 May, 2008 21:43:57

Once the account is approved you should be good to go. ;)

Hi. Firstly a great thank-you for providing this service. The SMTP service works perfectly.

I had a bit of trouble setting it up on Outlook, and was referred to this link
http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/skyuser-mail-smtp/20582-how-setup-outlook-express.html by NewsreadeR which may be useful to others looking at these posts. The only other thing I did was go to Advanced Settings and reset everything to default.

Thanks SkyUser - this is really a great service.I have now gone from hating Sky broadband and can now enjoy it, although their technical support is still useless!

Yes. Please make sure that you apply, giving us your forum username and a password, otherwise we will just ignore the application.

I got my confirmation email on Saturday evening, tested it on Sunday afternoon, and it works a treat. Thanks, Skyuser. You're doing a great job - and in your own time too. You're either dedicated or crazy!

All the best.

Is all this still live and necessary? I ss no postings for months. I've just changed to Sky and although it sends all my emails fomr other accounts, is set the FROM address to my SKY email rather than that for the account. I've done the above with outgpoing post as both 25 and 465 and get the repeated password request.

dcarters - I am in the same position , I assume all is still runnig - I have used the request form above this thread ,
