Launching Sky Broadband Unlimited Fibre which will offer up to 40Mb broadband speeds for £20 a month and build upon our great state-of-the-art network and award winning customer service

At its half year results today Sky announced a range of exciting new products and innovations giving more choice and value to customers – and more reasons than ever before to join Sky. This innovation supports the continued growth of Sky which is now in more homes than ever before (10.5 million), with customers taking a record numbers of products (26.8 million) across Sky’s growing range of entertainment and home communications services.

The announcements included:

The launch of a brand new internet TV service: Sky to Launch New Internet TV Service

Sky today unveiled plans to launch a new service allowing customers to watch some of its most popular content over the internet. Taking advantage of the rapid growth in broadband-connected devices, and building on Sky’s experience in multi-platform TV, the new service will be an additional choice for people who don’t currently subscribe to a pay TV service. Launching in the first half of this year, it will provide instant and simple access to a range of popular Sky content, including hundreds of films from Sky Movies at launch and expanding to offer sport and entertainment soon afterwards. The new service will be available across a wide range of connected devices, including PCs, Macs, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, games consoles and connected TVs. Available to anyone in the UK with a broadband connection, people will be able to watch on a pay-monthly or pay-as-you-go basis.

Further innovation in broadband:Sky builds on broadband growth with increased coverage, 10,000 WiFi hotspots and new fibre launch

To cement Sky’s position as the UK’s fastest-growing home broadband and phone provider, a number of new enhancements will give even greater choice and value, including:

- Building out Sky’s network to reach even more UK homes: Sky is extending its network footprint to bring great value broadband to 88% of the UK by June 2013. This means more than a million extra homes will be covered by Sky’s network. Sky continues to be the only ISP to guarantee not to manage the speeds of any customer on its network.

- Providing customers with free WiFi wherever they are: Sky will shortly launch its public WiFi service, powered by The Cloud. This means Sky Broadband Unlimited customers will get free access to more than 10,000 hotspots across the UK including Caffe Nero, Pizza Express and Wagamama.

- Adding choice with Sky Broadband Unlimited Fibre: Sky is to give customers even more choice by adding a new fibre broadband product to its range from April. For £20 a month customers will be able to access download speeds of up to 40 megabits with a totally unlimited product that has no usage caps.

Making Sky Anytime+ available in more than 5 million homes as well as adding BBC iPlayer and ITV Player: Sky Anytime+ goes from strength to strength with more content and increased reach

Sky yesterday announced a series of enhancements to its video on demand service, Sky Anytime+, giving people more choice of programmes and making it available to millions more homes for the first time. BBC iPlayer and ITV Player will be added to Anytime+ later this year, and Sky is making the service available to all Sky+HD homes with an internet connection, across all broadband providers by Easter this year. ITV archive content, including popular boxsets such as Prime Suspect, Lewis and Cold Feet, is now live on the service.

Sky Go comes to Android; Sky Atlantic, Sky 1, Sky Living, Sky Arts and Sky Sports F1™ join the service: Sky Views

In February Sky Go will launch on Android, starting with a selection of HTC and Samsung smartphones. At the same time a range of new content will also be added to the service including Sky 1, Sky Living, Sky Arts 1 and in March, Sky Sports F1™. Sky Atlantic is live on existing Sky Go platforms from today.

Stephen van Rooyen, MD of Sky’s Sales and Marketing Group, comments: “Sky is reaching more homes than ever and those homes are taking more products from us. We are delighted with the response from our customers to the likes of Sky+HD, Sky Broadband and Sky Go. However, we are a business built on innovation and we have a very exciting year ahead, whether with the launch of a brand new internet TV service, supercharging Sky Anytime+ or adding fibre and free WiFi to the UK’s fastest growing broadband service.”
