Nice one sky, theres a recession on, people are finding things tough and others are losing their jobs, yet you still insist on increasing your prices, unbelievable!

Can we terminate our contracts as a result of these increases? ie transfer to other ISPs.

I think you can move to another provider unless in your in a minimum term for any product (ie 12 months). Sky build into their contract that you can only terminate the contract if the increase is more than 10% and in any case they freeze the price change on your account if you have taken their services out by a certain date.

So what are we paying for if all the packages go up the same amount.
More profiteering by Sky. When are we going to get a suitable alternative to give them compertition.

It really annoys me that sky yet again are increasing prices, I realise some people say its only a £1 increase but if everyone one of its customers pay's that extra then look at its extra profit they are making, not just that but how far is sky going to go by increasing it a £1 every year? where is it going to stop? why dont the director's of sky take a pay cut and give there customer's a break from there usual price increases. I would swap sky for virgin cable any day, at least they dont appear to be as greedy as sky television.

People who moan about the price increases... Three options: Downgrade a package to save the minimal increase. Or, leave and see what 'better deal' you can get elsewhere (ha!) or thirdly, put up and stop moaning - does _everyone_ moan at the price of bread increasing daily, etc. Prices increase and always have done. Live with it.

In response to Anon.

Firstly there is alot of areas that dont have much choice in the way of tv services, where I live all we have is freeview/topup tv or sky (unfort no cable)

The fact is that sky put it up every year and for what or why?? probs to pay for the big bosses to have a massive pay increase and so sky can pay a
stupid amount of money for big sporting events at stupid costs. If you look at your current letter/magazine from sky about the increases it doesn't give any reasons to why there has been an increase??????, at least with bread they say its because the price of flour or summits gone up. we expect the cost of "everyday" items to increase such as bread, milk etc but NOT television.

have been with sky about 16yrs have never been given a discount or a free month. even have to pay to upgrade sky box. don't give you no deals or discounts once you join up. would cancel tomorrow it is only my kids that stop me.

If you want a deal or an offer then change your package from time to time. People who are on sky world and never change don't get offered deals as they are on the top package and seemingly happy with it. Take sports and movies off for a few months you'll soon get offers to keep them or add them back on. When someone from Sky phones you to discuss your package don't avoid the call, usually they have a special price to offer you.

I'm furious that the price of my subscription is going up. I usually pay £51pcm for my sky (multi-rooms) and have recieved a flyer saying that from August 2009 i will be paying £81pcm and then £88 in January when the VAT rates increase. There is no added channels for this increase, everything stays the same so why am i paying more? I have a young family and Sky is the only luxury we can bearly afford, now they are squeezing more money out of my recession filled pockets.
I would cancel without blinking if we hadn't recently upgraded and paid for a HD box. Can Sky explain why they are increasing this? What will it do for me, because if everyone increased their prices for no reason we wouldn't have an economy. Its pure greed and i'm furious, i'm just hoping that an alternative to Sky comes into the market because this is the result of a Monopolised Market.

nice one Glenn spot on comment,I agree,I pay £46 month plus multiroom at 9.75 and have skyHD at another 9.75 forever having problems with signal carnt watch and record programes at the same time because of this,I call sky wich diverts me to somewhere in the world I don't no costing me a fortune in phone calls going through there automotive service finally getting through to someone I can just understand telling me they can send out a sky engineer in 10days when they are in your area, why do we pay for veiwing we sometimes don't receive, great veiwing sky

I agree Nathan, I recently got a note in the mail saying that "we're investing all the time on our services so you can enjoy the best entertainment available, in the most convenient way. so as of 01/01/2010 we will be making an increase to the price of your HD Mix and any extras you've chosen to £78.50 a month"

now considering i was paying £53.04 a month, a price hike like this of over 44% is unbelievably cheeky and i am not sure i can afford these packages any more.

the letter then goes on to say that i will be paying £76.50 from august onwards .... not the 1st of the 1st 2010....

seriously sky ..... WTF !?!?!

We joined Sky towards the end of last year - like some other users we have little choice, in our area there is no cable service. Sky's own "free" broadband offer is also not available in my area (no i don't live in the middle of nowhere, I live on the outskirts of London, close to Bluewater)

We were forced to buy a new television last year so decided we may as well go for a full HD one, therefore we joined sky with (at that point in time rare) HD half price box, free installation offer

I see no sense in this Sky price increase. Now Sky seems to be giving away HD+ boxes and ordinary + boxes but they don't seem to take this into account with its programming. We took up a half price Movies upgrade but cancelled after the offer as the movies are repeated for months on end - what use is this to someone who can simply record the movie the first few times it is shown or watch on Sky Anytime!! Even since we cancelled over 2 months ago, only now have I noticed that the prime time movie line up is changing

Also the TV Guide is appalling. Poorly organised, and out of sync

Yet they cleverly catch you into a minimum contract period - swiftly reminded to me by an out of country call centre worker when they misunderstood by clearly simplified request to cancel my movies package upgrade and stating the packages I was left with "But Madam that would leave you with no packages, which would mean you are cancelling you Sky television services with the contract period, you will be charged...."

The most annoying point about the letter is the increase due to VAT going back to 17.5%. I do not remember the price coming down when VAT was decreased so Sky has sneaked in 2 price increases through VAT going back to the previous level.

All Freeview has to do is provide some good kids channels and probably 70% of Sky customers would cancel their subscriptions and say goodbye Sky I can get the programs we end up watching the most for free. They only reason as a parent I have Sky is for the Kids. Channel 4 is the next. I would even consider topup TV for kids if there was one. Also HD tv should be the standard now... it is taking too long.

I have just noticed on the back of the Sky mag that £1.75 of my package price is used to pay for this rubbish. Not happy because I remember complaining a while ago about when they said they would charge for the mag but I said I didn't want it. If it is a choice between saving tree's and £1.75 or receiving a publication that is used to tell me important information - Can I have my money back please Sky.

I think Sky are just taking advantage of of the "digital switchover".

They know that people want their television and are grabbing every chance they can to make a profit.

They know that the choices are limited, Cable, freeview/sat, BT Vision and they are also fully aware of all of the disadvantages with these.

Until a viable alternative comes along, they have got us all by the short and curlies and they know it!

Greedy B*****ds!

For those saying a £1 price increase is just the cost of a loaf of bread and Sky is good value compared to other services. Firstly he... is lucky enough to be employed and not signing on. I would love to cancel sky in a blink of an eye. But I need broadband and its phones services to A. Look for work. B. call employers where ever I can.

When your made redundant and living on £100 a week paid one a fortnight!, spending 60% on transport and knocking on doors and the rest feeding a family of three, with banks/credit cards, mortgage company and council chasing you for payment (as they only give, then and only then let us less well off hear you say to out face, it's only one a pound increase!. I won't take a package only the basics, if a could change without a credit check I would and I don't care if the kids miss Sky. But I can't. So if you happy to give £1 to sky and the tax on that to the Gov, then fine, but don't assume for millons of others is chicken feed!.

Before moaning about a pound increase , check out the competion. virgin will give you a crap service limited tv, must admit the broadband is fast , but at a cost of £77 a month , £1 dont seem that bad anymore

Dont blame sky. It's the Labour governments fault. They have completely F****ed up our country. Everything has gone up except wages and pensions.

We have been with Sky for over 8 years. In July we missed one month's payment (£46). Now they have told us that they want 2 months' payment in ADVANCE before they switch us back on. Have cancelled everything and we are using the sky box as a Freesat. Guess what?? The kids are surviving, are watching less TV but a better variety, and are being more creative.
