Sky Songs Music Service Launches 19th October
Sky Songs launches 19th October, and is available to anyone with a broadband connection
Sky Songs is due to launch on 19th October, with a rumoured library of over 4 million songs available to download by those who subscribe to the new service.
According to a Sky spokersperson, most of the songs are encoded at 320kbps and are in a DRM-free MP3 format.
"Sky Songs will reach out to consumers who want legitimate digital services offering choice, ease of use and great value," said Mike Darcey, chief operating officer at Sky.
"Offering legal access to digital music is a vital step in combating illegal downloading."
This new service from Sky will be based on two subscription options. You can either pay £6.49 a month, which gives you unlimited streaming and lets you download 10 songs or one £6.49 album. Or you can pay £7.99 and get the streaming as well as 15 songs or one £7.99 album.
You can however buy additional music after using up your allowance on a per track basis starting from 65p and £6.49 per album respectively.
Will this be the iTunes or Amazon killer? I am not entirely convinced, I can already buy from Amazon or iTunes without having to suscribe, and Amazon have some cracking prices occasionally as well.
Those of us on Sky Broadband, can however get a free album worth £6.49 once the service actually launches.
