To coincide with its full-year results, Sky today unveiled enhancements to Sky Go, Sky Anytime+ and Sky+. With each product available at no extra cost to Sky customers, the new enhancements promise to drive even more value and innovation into a Sky TV subscription.

  • The enhancements build on a record breaking year for Sky. Highlights from Sky’s full-year results include:
  • A record number of Sky customers: 10.6 million customers now choose Sky, an increase of 312,000 in the last year alone.
  • A record number of product subscriptions: the number of Sky products taken by customers increased by 12% across the year, to reach 28.4 million products across all Sky homes.
  • A record number of triple play customers: Sky cemented its position as the UK’s most popular and fastest-growing ‘triple-play’ provider, with a total of 3.4 million customers, up 21% year-on-year.
  • Sky Broadband also broke through the 4 million mark for the first time too and remains the UK’s fastest growing broadband service.

And a record number of High Definition (HD) homes: an extra half a million Sky homes subscribed to the UK’s most popular HD service this year, to take the total number to 4,343,000.

The further innovations announced today are:

Sky Go adds kids’ entertainment channels

From today, popular children’s shows including SpongeBob SquarePants, Ben10 and iCarly are available to watch on-demand on Sky Go, on smartphones and mobile tablets.

On-demand content from eight children’s channels, including Cartoon Network, the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, is now available through the award-winning app, which is available at no extra cost to Sky TV customers with the Entertainment Extra pack.

The on-demand content will be complemented by the addition of eight live kids’ channels to the Sky Go app next month. Once the live children’s channels are added, Sky customers will be able to access a total of 32 live channels on smartphone and iPads across news, sport, movies, entertainment and kids’ content. The eight channels are also available live and on-demand on Sky Go for PC, Macs and Laptops.

Sky+ mobile app update

Later this summer an update to the popular Sky+ app on iPad will enable Sky customers to use their iPad as a remote control, allowing them to pause and rewind content by swiping their iPad screen. Sky TV customers with Sky+HD boxes will also be able to view their planner on their iPad, and add or delete shows without interrupting what they are watching on the main TV.

Sky Anytime+ to get Channel 5 catch-up

Catch-up content from Channel 5 will be available on Sky’s TV on-demand service Sky Anytime+ later this year, including key shows Big Brother, Celebrity Big Brother, The Bachelor, The Hotel Inspector and the documentary strand Revealed. This follows an announcement that catch-up content from the BBC and ITV will also be added to Sky Anytime+ before the end of the year, providing Sky customers with a wide range of programmes from UK terrestrial channels available on-demand, all available alongside the best in on-demand content from Sky. Channel 5’s catch-up content will be accessible through the main Sky Anytime+ menu, as well as a ‘Demand 5’ player found within a new section of the service dedicated to catch-up TV.

Luke Bradley-Jones, Director of TV Products, Sky comments: "We’re constantly striving to give our customers the best possible viewing experience – whether that’s more of the shows they love, or flexibility in how they discover and watch those programmes. Today’s announcement demonstrates the exciting enhancements to our digital products and illustrates Sky’s continued commitment to delivering market-leading innovation into millions of homes across the UK, as standard.”
