      let's go wireless

I have recently set up my Sky connect broadband , however I am still using the ethernet cable supplied and am having trouble getting the router to talk to my wireless adapter card.

I am using a D-Link DWL-G520+ card , and it all appears to be working fine , until I try to connect to it. when I try and enter the Network Key as part of the encryption it is saying it is an invalid key ( this being the same one I configued on the Sky router , using the network key supplied )

I have noticed that my card uses 256-bit WEP encryption , does that mean it is not compatable with the Sky Router as the instructions say I should be using WPA ?

      help !!!

Your card should support WPA but sounds like it isn't. This is usually one of two things either your drivers aren't up to date for your wireless card or you haven't got the microsoft KB 893357 patch installed.

      1. update your drivers:
      D-Link United Kingdom

      2. Install KB893357 patch
The Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2)/Wireless Provisioning Services Information Element (WPS IE) update for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 is available

(i know the msoft patch is a WPA2 patch but it also fixes a lot of WPA problems)

      Re: let's go wireless

Tried installing those , and made no difference ....

Infact I cant even attach to the network card , even though it shows as enabled in device manager.

I have tried removing the card , installing the software again that came with it, and installing the card again. No Joy !!!!

Is it possible I can use my old D-Link , router hub instead of the net gear one ?

      Re: let's go wireless

Yep, connect by ethernet so that you can reach the router then use Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4 to get your sky password and user name

Then see this link from sticky wiki Non-Sky Router Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
and off you go to join the possible myriad of skyusers not using their netgear sky routers
