      Problems connecting via laptop

      Hi all,
You have probably had this question a million times before. I recently bought a laptop and connected up to sky broadband using the built in wireless stuff, all fine. 3 hours later the signal drops out and my laptop can't find it at all now. I have been on to sky and they got me to change this and that to no avail then told that I'd either need to contact the people who made my wireless stuff or buy something from sky to enable me to go wireless. This doesn't sound right, I bought a wireless laptop only to find that I cant go wireless unless I buy the special bits from Sky. Fortunately I can still connect using a LAN cable

      So here's the question:
Is there anything I can do to resolve this? I have seen many answers posted here but to be honest not understanding a lot of it.

      Thanks for reading/trying to understand

      Regards

      xlingy

      Re: Problems connecting via laptop

One thing to try would be to try changing the wireless channel.

log into http://192.168.0.1 with username: admin, password: sky

Go to wireless settings and change the mode from Auto 108MB to one of the others (try each).

Then the channel will be changeable, try changing it between 1, 6 and 11.

IIRC the default wireless mode is b and g. Auto 108 has been suggested on here previously, but locks the channel to 6, and only works with Netgear 108 tackle. I have found most favourable results using g only.

Mine was set at Auto 108Mb by default (well, when I first looked anyway). But I've only seen the one, so it may have been just an anomaly.
