      Can't connect wirelessly

      Hi there

I'm new to this forum and not all that techy so please bear with me.

I'm on Connect and received my Sky router last week, after some hassles I managed to get the wireless working fine. The next morning I either couldn't connect to the internet or it was painfully slow, so I called Sky and had the same experience as many others on this board - after an hour, they basically said they thought it was a fault with my laptop even though I'd had no trouble with my previous BT connection. So in desperation, I'm hoping someone here has had a similar issue and sorted it.

My problem now seems to be that the wireless connection is constantly 'acquiring network address'. I've tried changing the settings to WEP/128 bit, but that doesn't help. It seems to be working OK with the yellow ethernet cable but even that had its issues earlier in the week. Is there anything else I can try? I did toy with buying a new laptop but I noticed other people on here who've done that and they're still having problems so I'll keep that for a last resort.

I'm praying that someone can help, like so many of you out there, I'm at my wit's end! Any suggestions most gratefully received.

The Netgear router that Sky supplied, my laptop has an internal Ralink 2500 wireless LAN card - the icon for it used to appear in the system tray and I could see that the connection to that was coming and going - but now the icon's disappeared!

Velma it may be that your wireless card is not compatible with the router, have you access to another card or wireless usb adapter you can try|?

I've got a Netgear USB wireless adapter, it's worth giving that a go?

      Re: Can't connect wirelessly

Hi SassyLady, thanks so much, I think I'm getting somewhere! I've put my netgear wireless adapter in, it's still coming up 'acquiring network address' but in the settings I've noticed it says 'invalid IP address'. Anyone know what the IP address should be and where I should put it? Sorry for being thick
