      Hi Velma,

Go to Start / Run /
Type " cmd " in the box (without the " ") and hit OK

Now in the small black box that apppears, type " ipconfig " and hit enter.

It should show come up with something like this:

      IP address...... 192.168.0.XX
      Subnet Mask....... 255.255.255.0
      Default Gateway..... 192.169.0.1

      What does yours say?

I think it might be to do with running XP sp2 as I had the same hanging Acquiring Network message.

      Re: Can't connect wirelessly

Hmmm, it was possible that it may come up with a 0.0.0.0 but it doesn't.

Have you been at all able to connect wirelessly, even briefly since you got SKY?

If you can get into your router page (connecting by a cable I guess)

      http://192.168.0.1

      LAN IP Setup

Is "Use Router as DHCP Server" ticked?

If you assign/reserve individual IP addresses to each computers, does it help? (You assign each MAC code with a distinct IP, like 192.168.0.77 for PC #1 and 192.168.0.45 for PC #2)

Well, thanks to you all, I don't know how or why, but I now have a wireless network connection! It's not that stable and I'm almost scared to turn the laptop off in case it's gone when I turn it on again but for now I'm grateful. At least I haven't had any of the speed issues I had at the beginning - fingers and toes crossed! All I need now is for my Sky+ to be fixed and I'll be a happy Sky customer.

      Re: Can't connect wirelessly

Tell us how! Which alteration seemed to have the desired effect... I know for me, the reserving IP addresses seemed to cure the acquiring network issue (though I can't say why).

Anyway, I hope it settles down and that you can actually turn your laptop on and off and still have a connection!

      Good luck
