      Brother In Law's Dilemma !

      Hi all,

My brother-in-law is having an absolute nightmare with Sky Broadband. I told him that the top fellas at SkyUser would help !!

He had Sky Max installed yesterday - the install team were a nightmare, they put the router in the Hall, told him that he could buy a wireless adapter for 20 then left !!!!

He has tried to set up himself but is not technically minded.

He has managed to get the service working, after having to go back to his Cable Modem to go on the Internet and get a driver for the adapter (that's another story!)

Now - the aadapter works, but only when he has experimented by fiddling with the settings - he has no idea what the right settings are - just fiddles until the Wireless icon on the taskbar stays solid (!)

However, every time he shuts down and starts up again, his adapter settings keep searching for a channel, so his internet works for 10 seconds then goes off, works for 10 seconds goes off and so on - he has to go into the settings and fiddle again.

Any ideas what is causing the adapter to go searching for a channel and give him (not even) intermittent access to his browser ?

      Its driving him mad !!!!!

      Hope you can help

      Cheers

      R66

Thumbs up Re: Brother In Law's Dilemma !

with the router should be a card with the following info
      SSID SKY12345
      NETWORK KEY QWERRTYW
      CHANNEL 11

turn on pc and in the adaptor page enter the information off the card and set as default.

then the card should find the router all the time. I would also look at the tutorial forum to set up wireless and security so that no one can get free use of your network.

      hope this helps

also worth asking him if he ever tweaks the XP services - i'd disabled loads, and had to restore the default settings to get my connection going.

Also turn UPNP in the router to see if that helps.
