      WG111v2 WIRELESS ADAPTER QUESTION!! 802.11g

      Hi all.

Please bear with me, I am useless when it comes to networking!!

I have just connected to Sky broadband, and have purchased a WG111 v2 to run alongside my DG834GT router.

I had my network running wired for a week with no problems.

Received my wireless adapter today, and installed as per instructions.

I generally receive a wireless signal of 7 out of 8 dots. Strong

      My questions are:

      1) In the instruction manual, it says that the status bar should display "connected to internet" when online but mine displays
"192.168.x.y" (x and y being numbers). I am online, and broadband SEEMS to be working as it should, although my speed does tend to drop from 54mbps down to 11mbps when the internet is loading a different page. This is getting to be noticeable!!

I really am struggling to understand about wireless networking, so any help will be greatly appreciated!!

      Many many thanks in advance.

      Richard.

Btw I have no idea how to get any of the connection/router configuration details that most other users post!!

Well that all sounds normal(ish) to me.

The speed dropping from 54mbps to 11mbps can't be noticable as the max that sky gives is 16mbps. 54mbps is the maximum theoretical speed that data can be transfered across PCs connected to the router network.

What speed is your router synching at?

Take a read of some of the links in my sig.

Re: WG111v2 WIRELESS ADAPTER QUESTION!! 802.11g

Thanks for your help, but after doing that test I had to reinstall my system again as I couldn't even connect to the internet. So this has somewhat put me off fiddling anymore!!

I am just going to use the wireless connection for general surfing, and use my ethernet cable when I want to download stuff!!

      Thanks again.

Re: WG111v2 WIRELESS ADAPTER QUESTION!! 802.11g

Slightly unrelated but I've just seen which adapter you're using and I've had a lot of issues with it because of the software that ships on the installation CD:

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/netwo...-conflict.html

Installing that fix in normal mode shows which .dll you're using and will reset it to default if Netgear has changed it (which it doesn't need to and can cause problems as it did to me).
