wahoo! i think i'm nearly there!! i never knew what that funny little button did. HOWEVER, i now have a new problem - it now keeps flicking between being connected and unconnected. The message goes from 'not connected' to 'acquiring network address' every few seconds. Do you know how i can get rid of that?

by the by, should i always keep that LAN button on?

many thanks for the help so far. Much appreciated

Try going nearer the router, or move the aerial on the router to see if the signal improves

i've put my computer right next to the router with no joy, and have fiddled with the aerial as much as it will allow with no change. Any other thoughts of what it might be? when i was searching for a thread on my problem i actually found a fella describing this exact problem but now can't find the thread...

A couple of things to check.
The network key is case sensitive (mine's all capitals)
The network security is WPA by default on the sky router though you can change this in the router (connect a browser by ethernet cable to http://192.168.0.1 Username=Admin Password=sky and look around)

Thanks for confirming that. I had a suspicion that the CAPS problem was affecting a few other people too, now I know how it behaves.
