      Wireless connected but no Internet!

      Hi there,
I would be very very greatful for any help anyone can give me.

I have had Skybroadband since early November and the yellow LAN cable connection works fine. However, the wifi seems to have a mind of its own.

At the moment, my laptop which runs XP has the brand spanking new Netgear WG511T pugged in, and the icons on the desktop all say I am connected at EXCELLENT speeds, however I cannot get onto the web every time I try and enter a new web-address, or even an IP number it just comes up with page unavailable - check if you are connected to the net.

I am at my wits end with this stupid thing.

      Please help.

have you tried to connect to the router? ip address 192.168.0.1

Can you access the internet if you plug the computer straight into the router?

Could you also post your Stats

Also, Go to the network connection properties for the wireless connection and make sure it's set to obtain all address & dns info automatically.

One other possibility springs to mind. Are you definitely connected to YOUR wireless network and not someone else's.

      Help

      Thanks folks for info.

My internet works fine via yellow LAN cable. I can access the IP when I am connected via LAN, but not via wireless.

At work at the moment. But will post stats when I get a chance this weekend (thought the forum would email me when I had responses to my posts, didn't realise I had to check it every day - hence the delay in responding)

      In same situation....

I have had SKY the same amount of time, and had big issues in getting the wireless from my laptop to the Sky router working. With that now done (Thanks to this site!), I am getting the same response - Connected with excellent reception, but when I take the Yellow cable out, I cannot load any web pages or access 192.168.0.1

It is also driving me mad!!!!

Would really appreciate any advice if anyone else has been in this position and resolved it.

Quickly reading this implies you had everything going with the yellow ethernet lead in then unplugged it and everything stopped. Did you re-boot the PC without the ethernet cable in place. Just a thought but it may be still trying to use that instead of the wireless.
