Broadband constantly falling off internet radio and smartphone/tablet

I have had endless problems in the past with both broadband and landline and now have my Sky Netgear Router plugged directly into the main BT socket via a filtered faceplate. I have also in the past used SSID Insider and Router Stats Lite with my laptop and PC to see what's going on.

PC, TV and Roberts Stream 83i Internet Radio attached to the router via Devolo Powerline boxes.

An additional Edimax Range Extender in the house to help smartphone/ tablet access.

Despite this, the tablet/smartphone constantly flash up "Connected to Wifi..." as though the signal is constantly falling off; the PC (attached to powerline) even sometimes has to have the router rebooted; the worst is the internet radio (attached to powerline) which is almost constantly loading.

At the moment I have a landline network intermittent problem that callers cannot hear me when they phone in. Supposedly fixed but now back again.

I am less than satisfied with the whole sorry business. The only thing that works is the TV/ Catchup. Can anyone suggest anything further?
      Alice

Re: Broadband constantly falling off internet radio and smartphone/tablet

Is it possible for you to connect directly with the router rather than through the Extender?

The issue might be with the PowerLine adaptors or the Extender. It would be beneficial to rule them out before going too far.

Also could you post the full connection stats from your router please? This too will help us to see if there is a potential connection issue from the 'Up Times'.

      Thank you Alice.

That indicates that the router was reset completely just before midnight last night.

Could you confirm if you reset the router or if something else happened?

I would also consider checking the power socket if possible. Ensure that there are no loose connections or anything like that.

Re: Broadband constantly falling off internet radio and smartphone/tablet

I did indeed reset the router.
You may be right about loose connections because the wires have come out before now. Whose responsibility is it to fix that?

Re: Broadband constantly falling off internet radio and smartphone/tablet

It specifically depends upon which wires are loose.

Responsibility between the exchange and the Test socket is with the ISP (Sky in this case). After the Test socket, it is your responsibility.

If the issue is the other side of the Test Socket and if you are happy to tighten them up yourself, then it is normally a simple screw driver task.

By all means post a photo if you are unsure.

Re: Broadband constantly falling off internet radio and smartphone/tablet

      Nice clear pics.

Those wires lead directly to your telephone extension sockets. It is also clear that you have the VDSL faceplate.

I trust that you are plugging the router into the top socket? This being the case, if you were to leave the faceplate which is shown unplugged and use the socket for your telephone, does the Internet work well? Of course any internal extensions will not work when you do this.

By 'loose' do you mean that the wires loose in the connector or just loose behind the faceplate?

An IDC tool would be the best thing to fix the wires if they are loose in the connectors, and this would technically be your responsibility. There are two types of IDC tools which are applicable. Some people also prefer using a plastic card, but this can damage the IDC connectors that the wires connect to.

Cheap disposable IDC tool: IDC Tool , Simple tool to allow termination to IDC blocks

Pro IDC tool: Professional IDC Tool

      Is the VDSL faceplate correct?
Router (grey ADSL) into top socket, yes. Will try what you suggest.
      Loose from the connectors.
I have ordered an IDC tool to reconnect to the blocks.
      Hope this helps, thanks again.

      The VDSL faceplate is perfect.
