Im not worried about doing a bit of cabling but this house is a new build and the walls are bricked downstairs and full of insulation upstairs. My router is downstairs in the study and you mention the loft. I'm a little lost. How do I get the cable to the loft. I don't want to run the cable outside. The house a fortune and certainly don't want to have ugly cables on show
Didn't you get offered a network install when you bought the property?

My Parents bought a new build 2 years ago and this was an optional extra which they took-up (we advised them to due to issues like this).

Their electrician can add additional ports if they need them too.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that most outside walls now are two layers. Ok I am not a builder but with insulation issues this would be a sensible approach.

Most new cavity walls have insulation between the two leaves of masonry, making passing anything down it nigh on impossible. Many older constructs have insulation inserted at a later date.
