      Right.

I've got bridgerestrict=enabled and wdsmac_0="nn:nn:nn:nn:nn" set on the sky router now. I think! Or I hope, It's in the configuration that the I restored.

The edimax, I've flash upgrade to 1.7. Then did a factory reset to clear everything.

I've configured the edimax as a universal extender. Mac address 192.168.0.250, default gateway 192.168.0.1 (sky router). SSIDs are different at the moment. WPA / TKIP

      Sky router has channel 6
      edimax has channel 11

sky router is wpa / psk / tkip security
edimax is wpa / tkip security

Guess what? Authentication errors to the edimax.

      More to follow....

Now I've taken off all the security. And reset everything.

Can connect to the sky router and to the internet.

Edimax won't give out ip addresses on the wireless connection AND, when on a wired connection i don't get to the 192.168.0.1.

Sorry about all the disjointed posts. But, what the hell is going on?

Edimax won't give out ip addresses on the wireless connection
It shouldn't do. Its DHCP server should be disabled and IP addresses given out by the Sky router.

when on a wired connection i don't get to the 192.168.0.1.
If you mean you can't access the web interface of the router, I don't know why that should be. I'll have to have a think.

Re: Trouble extending WiFi (Sagem f@st 2504n) with Edimax extender (EW-7416APn V2)

      Right.

And today 2 hours worth of configuration.

      End result - nothing!

I made the config changes the sky router
      - bridge = enabled and wdsmac of the edimax
      - took off all the security
      - set the channel to 6

      Reset the edimax
      flash upgrade to 1.07
      Reset to factory defaults
      Configured as a universal extender
      Set to channel to 11
set the ip address to 192.168.0.250
      mask to 255.255.255.0
      default gateway to 192.168.0.1
      dhcp server off!

Wireless won't get an IP address from the Edimax. Wired connection to the edimax can't see 192.168.0.1

So, it looks like the edimax isn't communicating with the sky router?

I had always planned to link the two together via a powerline adapter anyway, but this is started to p*** me off.

Any suggestions? Anyone close might hear the dull thud of plastic meeting concrete soon.

Try putting them both on the same channel.

Thank you! All appears to work. Thank you so much.

I was sure I tried that option originally but maybe read somewhere about different channels.

So, if I now wanted to move the edimax to the other end of the house, in theory it would be powerline adapters between the two ?

It depends on your house, you could move the extender around and see if you get a signal everywhere you want it.

Re: Trouble extending WiFi (Sagem f@st 2504n) with Edimax extender (EW-7416APn V2)

Well, I moved the edimax to a nearby spot and it doesn't talk the to other wireless router, so I guess I'm going to play "place the wireless router" games tonight.

Otherwise, powerline adapters and ethernet adapters, if I do use this method, do I need to make any further adjustments.

      Thanks for all your help

No you should just have to plug it in and it will work. It should give you a more stable connection than wireless.

I see things have moved on a bit since I was last in a position to participate in this thread! As GRTCW24's issues are largely resolved, I am forking the trail here to continue addressing my current challenges.

I've performed a backup of my router to a .conf file (formatted as XML), but there are no references to 'Bridge Restrict'. The only reference to WDS is in the <X_BROADCOM_COM_WlanAdapter> element, where there is a set of instances of the child element <WlStaticWdsCfg>.

Fair question - the AP is definitely enabled on the 7416, since it's configured in Universal Repeater mode. What confirms it for me is that I can briefly ping the 7416 via the router after I reset it (the Edimax 7416).

Can you shed any further light on where to look next?

      Thanks!
