      Re: Extend Wifi Range

That looks like you have a faulty router or a faulty line. The fact that you WLAN is short is due to you changing the channel earlier today. What I am surprised at is that the WAN up time hasn't reset. I am more inclined to suspect the router.

Give Sky a call. They should have access to systems to check your line for errors. Hopefully you can blag a new Sagem 2504N router for free.

      Re: Extend Wifi Range

Phoned Sky this morning and they said the line showed instability.
They asked me to change the adsl line cable which improved things.
They will call back later today to check how things are.

Oh dear it's gone again, for an hour and a half, and two separate half hours.
I don't know if it is the router or DNS.
      I changed the DNS again.

Certainly either your router or the line is playing up.

Could I suggest that you call sky again?

Well, I don't know what else to convince them. They say all is showing fine at their end.
What to do now? I've done everything.
What do you make of the adapter going down? Do you think the driver update has sorted that?

      Re: Extend Wifi Range

I think they are being a bit optimistic quoting 20Mb for a line with a 23db attenuation. Intermittent noise on the line is causing it to drop to a negative figure, then out completely. Unless you can trace the source of the interference, you would be better settling for 18 or maybe even 17 Mb. This is a pretty good speed by ADSL standards.

      Re: Extend Wifi Range

The wifi connection from my laptop was interrupted whilst downloading email, so I guess I'll have to get on to Sky again right enough.

However, I still think I have another problem with the desktop/netgear usb adapter/dns setting. The router shows connected ok but internet access has gone again.

Also, although I have enabled upnp streaming, my Roberts Stream 83i no longer finds my desktop pc for its music.

Yes, I'll get a new router at some point, but i don't think that will help the desktop problem.

I have been on to Sky again.

      Re: Extend Wifi Range

Back from hol to find problem continues and sky closed case despite telling them I would be away.
Got a most unhelpful adviser. Appalled to find I would have to go through whole troubleshooting palaver again. Tried again the next day and they admitted there was a fault after I did all the test socket stuff. Told to leave it for a few hours to see what happened!!! Phoned again when I was able to continue the troubleshooting to find they hadn't yet opened a case.
This adviser actually seemed to know something and said was an exchange fault on the phone line causing the broadband to drop.
Today received word that it is fixed.
      Time will tell...

      Re: Extend Wifi Range

      Let us hope so.

If it hasn't been fixed, then perhaps Sky will send someone out from BTO.

Overall is the performance better than it was originally now though?
