This is a discussion on Extend Wifi Range within the Wireless / Adapters forums, part of the Sky Broadband help category; What a lovely improvement! Slightly better than my guess, but that is good....

      Re: Extend Wifi Range

      Oops, spoke too soon.
Have just lost internet access. Router still accessed.
I restarted the pc and internet access is there.
I noticed this happening before, once the router had been moved from ethernet cable setup.
      What do you suggest?

      Re: Extend Wifi Range

Your WAN and WLAN times show that nothing has dropped in the router, maybe try changing the router channel.

      Re: Extend Wifi Range

Forgot I had been experimenting with channels before all this testing began.
Have changed it back to 11.
Results then show increase in Noise and reduction in speed.

      Re: Extend Wifi Range

I think that it may be worth using a Public DNS Server on the PC.

To do this, take a look at the M$ Website and search there on how to change the DNS Server Address for your WiFi adaptor. I have listed two of the more popular Public DNS Servers. There are others and they can be found on the link below. Don set the IP Address though, just the DNS Server.
      Google 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4
      OpenDNS 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220

My reason for this is that sometimes this can resolve the issues which you are experiencing. Yes it is another potential cure and I appreciate that there has been a lot to go through. As Tom has pointed out, the up times are showing that your connection hasn't dropped.

      Re: Extend Wifi Range

Oh you've just reminded me! When I first went with Sky I couldn't get internet access though connected to router. Tech couldn't help. Spent a week on it.
Finally someone got me to change the DNS settings!
      This could be the answer...

No problem. Sometimes it can be a process of elimination, taking the more obvious potential causes out of the mix first.

      Re: Extend Wifi Range

I think I've changed the DNS OK.
Do I put the router back to channel 6, wifi analyzer gives all my channels the same star rating.

      Re: Extend Wifi Range

inSSIDer would be a little more useful for the PC. I don't tend to rely on the that star rating system as where I live there are well over 60 WiFi routers around me (I picked up over 80 the other month) and they all use the whole range of channels. Since I get all the stars on some channels, despite the fact that they are used by other routers nearby, I can't see the point of them.

It really depends on possible local interference which can be unseen.

Some members have found that what appeared to be the cleanest channel was the wring choice and found another which was better.

      In case it hasn't been mentioned to you previously, the ideal channels to pick from are 1, 6, 11 and 13. 2, 3, 4 & 5 interfere with channels 1 & 6. 7, 8, 9 & 10 interfere with channels 6 & 11. Whilst 13 overlaps with 11, most of its signal is in the clear.

If you look at inSSIDer and click the '2.4GHz Channels' tab you can see this more easily from the representations of the signals.
