Re: New wireless adapter connected with limited access

      Hi lis,

I would recommend setting up your connection manually. Once you are connected to the network and get the limited access sign, go to network propeties and set up your connection manually. To do so you will have to open up your wireless connection stats, click properties and then click internet protocol properties (ipv4).

You will enter the following in manually:
      - An ip address (example 192.168.0.135)
      - Subnet Mask
      - Default gateway (usually the address you enter to get into the router settings page. For my netgear router it is 192.168.0.1)
      - Primary DNS
      - Secondary DNS

You will be able to find the subnet mask, the dns's and the default gateway on the router stats page.

You are looking to get to the following screen. It's a screenshot from windows xp.

I think this should sort you out..

      HI
Followed instructions and the following came up
"Warning - The default gateway is not on the same network segment (subnet) that is defined by the IP address and subnet mask. Do you want to save this configuration"
I did click yes but still not working.
      ?????

Re: New wireless adapter connected with limited access

Try the following, the first bit being exactly what Isitme suggested:

start > control panel > network and sharing centre > 'manage wireless networks' on the left hand side > remove every single network within there.

Connect up an ethernet cable. Open a browser and browse to '192.168.0.1'. Username is 'admin' and password is 'sky', without the quotations. Click 'set up' in the top left. Change the channel to something else, like 13 for instance. Also change the SSID to something else, like SKY123 or whatever you wish. Check about half way down the page for the 'security' section and note down the network key that's selected there. Click apply at the bottom of the page.

Then go to start > connect to > connect to your 'new' SSID that you have renamed > enter the network key that you noted down ALL IN CAPITALS.

If it's still not working and you've followed the above perfectly, then also do the following incase you've made incorrect changes to ip/dns settings:

start > type 'ncpa.cpl' into the 'start search' bar and then click the link above > right click 'wireless network connection' > go into the ipv4 properties > ensure that obtain an IP address automatically is selected and also DNS automatically > click ok.

See if you have any luck after that.

I am not sure why you should be getting this. Go back into the IP Properties and select 'Use this IP Address and enter
      IP Address .......192.168.0.100
      Subnet............... 255.255.255.0
      Gateway.............192.168.0.1

      Preferred DNS...208.67.222.222.
      Alternate DNS....208.67.220.220

Make sure when you do this that you are selecting the Wireless adapter and not the ethernet one.

When you have done that reboot your PC and try to connect.

Just seen User's comment. Try the Automatic as he suggests first, if it doesn't work, try the fixed.

Can you open a Command Prompt and type ipconfig /all and press Enter. Copy and paste the results here.

To copy and paste from the Command Prompt - right click on the top bar of the Command pane, scroll down, select Edit, then 'Select all'. Do the same and this time select 'Copy'. Paste here.

Did you give the Adapter a fixed address as I suggested in post #14? You should have got a result from the Command Prompt something like this -

Re: New wireless adapter connected with limited access

      Hi Isitme

I used the fixed address as you suggested and the propmt came up with the same.
I have moved my computer so I could use an ethernet cable and that doesnt work either!

      The network diagnostics says
The network adapter Local area connection is not correctly configeres to use the IP protocol
" the network adapter NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet is experiencing driver or hardware related issues"
"make sure your internet protocol bindings are correct.

      Am sooo confused!!

For your Ethernet adapter, go to the Device manager and expand the Network entry. Right click the ethernet adapter and select Uninstall and confirm . Reboot your PC and the adapter will be installed with the correct drivers.

For wireless, unplug the adapter from your PC. Go to the Control Panel and open Programs and Features. Scroll to the entries for your adapter and click Uninstall. Make sure you get them all as there may be more than one.

Now put the CD install disk in and proceed to install the adapter. Do not plug the adapter in until the wizard tells you to. When it does, plug the adapter into a USB port and wait till it is detected. The install will proceed. When complete, right click the wireless icon in the Tray and select 'Search for available networks' then select yours from the list.
