      Try going to the wireless adapter manufacturers web site and search for an update for the drivers. Most reasonably modern adapters should support at least WPA, if not WPA2. Updating the drivers often helps.

      its a brand new router from sky , d link one so already WPA compatable

      It's not the router that's the problem, it's the wireless card your using to connect to the router.

      The fact that you used WEP with your previous router suggests that you adapter software is not up to date, that is why I suggested you look for drivers.
