      Wireless network problems

      Hello All, details first:
      SKY broadband with Sagem modem/router
Laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium
Buffalo Linkstation (1Gb) with 500Mb Western Digital USB hard drive attached
      SONOS music system
Both the Linkstation and the SONOS are plugged into the modem but accessed wirelessly.

The problem I'm having is that when transferring files (photos and music) to the Linkstation and some of these are not huge files, I inevitably lose my network connection. Not only to the Linkstation but also my internet connection. This generally results in the PC clamming up completely and often switching it off is the only way to get everything back.

I am aware this may have nothing to do with my broadband connection but it does affect it. Has anyone else got a similar setup and had similar problems? Anyone know of a fix for it? Any help would be appreciated.

      Re: Wireless network problems

Are you using wireless? If so change the wireless channel in the router and try again.

      Re: Wireless network problems

I am using wireless. Can I choose any channel on the router or is there a specific one?

      Re: Wireless network problems

I couldnt answer that specifically, all I can say is use inssider and pick a channel which is as far away from others using wireless in your area.
The auto mode however is notoriously bad and you may find that moving it off auto onto any channel fixes the problem.

      Re: Wireless network problems

Switched from auto to channel 11 on the router and so far so good. Transferred several decent sized files without problem. Previously I would have expected it all to come crashing down. Thanks.

      Re: Wireless network problems

Good to hear you got it sorted, sadly this sort of thing is common and if sky just sent the router without the auto setting set they'd probably save themselves a lot of phone calls!
