Need help - signal so low!

Just got my router today, broadband not being activated until the 16th which is annoying.

What is more annoying is i've tested the signal right next to my pc - full signal.

Tested upstairs in the livingroom and no signal, is there anyway to boost the signal at all? Or have i completed wasted my money on this?

It could be there is interference from a nearby network. Download Inssider from the link below and use it to discover the channels in use in your area. Change the channel to one as far from those in use as possible. You may also have to experiment with the orientation of your router. Changing it from upright to flat, or vice-versa may make a difference.

      What router have you received?

Bear in mind that you are paying for a broadband connection, the wireless part is a free add-on. Many use Homeplugs instead of wireless as they are faster and more stable, especially for gaming or streaming video.

      Thanks for the reply.

I have now gotten myself 2 of the homeplugs off ebuyer.com their extra value ones had glowing reviews and a guy at work told me a bit about them too, seems like an ideal solution.

My understanding is that one plugs into a socket by the router and has a wire to the router and then the other i can simply plug in a socket in my room right and feed that to my pc?

Pitty i have to fork out yet more money though, nearly skint for the month now

That's right. You can also plug a switch, or even a spare router into it to allow you to connect more devices.

You can also just keep adding them as needed for games consoles etc, you can even get them with a wireless access point built in to allow you to extend the wireless reach into any dead spots for laptops etc.

Well for now i will stick with the ethernet one.

Think in a few months when i'm more settled into the new place i will get a wireless one, well maybe anyway.
