      wi fi problems

      Hello world,
I am new on the forum and new to sky.. I set up the broadband three days ago.
everything seemed straightford and trouble free.

The desktop PC is upstairs and so is the phone socket and modem/router
So the Desktop is hard wired with the ethernet cable.
The laptop lives in various rooms of the house.. connection shows as excellent everywhere.

Whenever I open or switch on the laptop it does not connect itself to the system.
I have to manually 'connect' to sky and every time I do it fails to connect..
when I check the problem I am told that the laptop is trying to log in using network key and I have to re type it... Once connected everything is fine until I shut down and restart again..

      anyone got any ideas ????

      Thanks
      Chris

what operating system is it? As long as you tell it to remember the connection you should not have to keep entering the key.

Quite right. Make the Sky Connection the Default connection and it will automatically log on. How to do this depends upon which OS you are using.

OK, The windows system is Vista home premium.

I cant find an option to make Sky my default connection ??
where should I find it ??

Every time I connect manually I select Sky and it rejects the connection and tells me I am using the wrong network key.. then I have to re type it and all is well..
      till the next time..

Are you using the Windows wireless manager or the laptops one? I would think you may be using the laptops manager and it is not working too well. Go to the Control Panel, Network and Sharing and click 'Change adapter settings' in the left pane. Open the Properties of your wireless card, click the Wireless adapters Tab and tick the box which says 'Allow Windows to manage my wireless..' follow the instructions and see if it helps.

      Re: wi fi problems

When you go into the network connections it should show the network adapters you have installed on your PC. In your case you should see a LAN adapter for your ethernet and for your wireless. Right click the wireless one and select Properties, this will bring up a pane with tabs at the top, click the wireless networking one..

If you have them installed you may see icons for bluetooth and 1394 or firewire, ignore these if you see them.
