      Which Wireless Adapter?

Recently I bought a Belkin G USB adapter to connect my desktop to the Sky router (Netgear) . However, it kept losing connection and sometimes it was not able to connect to the router at all. My laptop, which has a built-in G wireless card, connects to the router with no problems from the same location. I returned the Belkin adapter but now I'm not sure what to do. Would buying the Netgear G adapter (WG111) make a difference? What about the WG111T version? Is it worth spending extra for this 'Super G' version? All I need is a solid connection but it does not have to be particularly fast? Also does anyone know what the exact model supplied by Sky themselves is?

      Operating system is Vista.

Thanks a lot for any advice.

Get the standard G model, the 'Super G' is a waste of money, especially if you are not transferring large files over a network. The standard model is fast enough for internet usage.

      Thanks for the reply.

      I came across this model:

NETGEAR WG111GE Wireless G USB Network Adapter at cheap prices | PC World

But I couldn't find it on Netgear's website. Does that mean this is an old model? Or is it the same as WG111? Does anyone know if Netgear still supports this model with updated drivers etc...

      Thanks a lot.

I have the exact same one plugged into my media center PC behind the TV, it's a fair distance from the router and can still stream HD 1080p movies over my network no problem. As for drivers on both Vista and Windows 7 I just plugged it in and Windows Update downloaded the drivers within seconds! Really good product.

      Re: Which Wireless Adapter?

When I was with BT Option 3, my wireless signal frequently showed four bars (out of five), and never dropped below three. Now, with Sky, it often drops below three - sometimes, it's only one! Which leads me to believe that the Sagem router that comes with Sky hasn't got as good a wireless range/signal as the BT HomeHub v2 that I used to have. Therefore, I'm thinking of getting a more powerful wireless adapter.

At the moment, I have a Tenda W311U 802. 11 n wireless adapter - it wasn't very expensive, so I'm wondering how good it is. Could someone recommend a decent wireless adapter, or is it just a case of the router being less powerful and nothing to do with the adapter? I'm sure it's possible to get better adapters for routers with weaker signals. Would it be a good idea to get a Sagem wireless adapter, to match the router? The adapter needs to support Win 7 64bit.

Any links would be appreciated if you have them.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't want to spend too much, but I want a decent adapter.

      Re: Which Wireless Adapter?

Sagem do make a wireless adapter, but whether it is worth it is questionable.-
Techstore 828318 - Sagem Wireless Dongle USB Bluetooth Ref Wireless D

I think the difference you are experiencing is down to the router, not your adapter. The BT Hub especially the N version is much more powerful than the Sagem. That is one of the reasons Sky users who are surrounded by BT users have such a hard time getting their wireless to work properly. The BT Hub delivering wireless to the bottom of the garden is no exaggeration, just try it with a Sagem. Unless you have a very small garden, you will not get much.

OK, thanks for the heads up. Do Sky update their router occasionally - BT seem to update the HomeHub from time to time.
